This book of plays has been written keeping in mind an age group of six and above. The children who will be reading this book will be able to apply quite easily the exercises and techniques that the book describes. Some will require facilitation by a trainer, of course, but many can be practiced at home as well. The book aims to be a guidebook for lessons in theatre and performance arts and is designed keeping in mind international syllabi for the same. The language used has been kept as simple as possible so as to help the children and teachers apply the techniques given. The activities and exercises described in the book range from techniques used by world-renowned theater artists to techniques that we ourselves devised in classrooms. The theme of the book, Folk Tales from Around the World, was chosen keeping in mind the fact that such plays would be best suited for children of that age. The plays included have been inspired by tales passed on from generation to generation in many lands across the seas.

With the No Drama Just Theatre series, Crea-Shakthi aims to make World History accessible through role-playing in the classroom and otherwise. The intention is the make theatre a driving force for learning to everyone not only with a book of plays but also with activities that would engage the readers before and after such a play is read or performed. The book is aimed at children of ages 6 and above for cognitive, sensorial, physical and language improvement. Each play in the book is created trying to make students more informed of world history through performance rather than through traditional ways of learning history through timelines.

This annotated translation is the first systematic rendering into any Western language of the nine major treatises on the art of the Japanese No theater by Zeami Motokivo (1363-1443). Zeami, who transformed the No from a country entertainment into a vehicle for profound theatrical and philosophical experience, was a brilliant actor himself, and his treatises touch on every aspect of the theater of his time. His theories, mixing philosophical and practical insights, often seem strikingly contemporary. Since their discovery early in this century. these secret treatises have been considered among the most valuable and representative documents in the history of Japanese aesthetics. They discuss subjects from the art of the playwright to the reciprocal nature of the relationship between performer and audience.

Japanese nõ theatre or the drama of 'perfected art' flourished in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries largely through the genius of the dramatist Zeami. An intricate fusion of music, dance, mask, costume and language, the dramas address many subjects, but the idea of 'form' is more central than 'meaning' and their structure is always ritualized. Selected for their literary merit, the twenty-four plays in this volume dramatize such ideas as the relationship between men and the gods, brother and sister, parent and child, lover and beloved, and the power of greed and desire. Revered in Japan as a cultural treasure, the spiritual and sensuous beauty of these works has been a profound influence for English-speaking artists including W. B. Yeats, Ezra Pound and Benjamin Britten.

Norway's struggle to assert an independent cultural and political identity in the nineteenth century was played out with particular fervor at the Christiania Theatre in Christiania (now Oslo). Until the 1860s the Danish actors and directors dominated the Christiania Theatre, and even plays written by Norwegian authors were performed in Danish. This study examines the intellectual campaigns that transformed the Christiania Theatre from a Danish stage into the forerunner of Norway's National Theatre. It focuses on the culture wars between the Norwegian nationalists and the so-called Danomanians in the 1830s; the promotion of the Hegelian and national romantic cultural agenda in the 1840s and 1850s; Bjornson's and Ibsen's rejection of both radical nationalism and the entrenched Danishness of the theater in the 1850s' and Bjornson's ambitious attempt to reform the theater in the mid-1860s.
