The Copenhagen Studies in Language Series includes studies of language for general purposes and also language for special purposes (LSP). It covers grammar, semantics, pragmatics, text linguistics and translation, both from theoretical and applied perspectives. It is editorial policy to bring out the journal in the form of a series of thematic volumes. Although produced from the Copenhagen Business School, the journal welcomes contributions from linguists based at other institutions either in Denmark or the wider world. This volume brings together five papers presented at the 1st International Research Workshop "Methodology in Translation Process Research" held from April 6 to 8, 2009, at the University of Graz, Austria. The first three articles provide insights into the methods employed in the TransComp project at the University of Graz and discuss some of the findings this longitudinal study has yielded so far. The fourth presents results from another longitudinal study, the CTP project ("Capturing Translation Processes"), conducted at Zurich University of Applied Sciences. The collection concludes with a contribution which bridges methodology in translation and interpreting process research.

As an interdisciplinary area of research, translation studies attracts students and scholars with a wide range of backgrounds, who then need to face the challenge of accounting for a complex object of enquiry that does not adapt itself well to traditional methods in other fields of investigation. This book addresses the needs of such scholars – whether they are students doing research at postgraduate level or more experienced researchers who want to familiarize themselves with methods outside their current field of expertise. This book assembles fifteen original, interdisciplinary research chapters that explore methodological and conceptual considerations as well as user and usage studies to elucidate the relation between the translation product and translation/post-editing processes. It introduces numerous innovative empirical/data-driven measures as well as novel classification schemes and taxonomies to investigate and quantify the relation between translation quality and translation effort in from-scratch translation, machine translation post-editing and computer-assisted audiovisual translation. The volume addresses questions in the translation of cognates, neologisms, metaphors, and idioms, as well as figurative and cultural specific expressions.
