Nature Exposed to our Method of Questioning explores how we create our cultural assumptions about personhood, culture and nature. The following four questions frame the study: (1) How do premodern, modern, and postmodern perspectives in art, religion, philosophy, and science differ and interpenetrate? (2) What does it mean to integrate questions, ideas, values, and beliefs as we create our living environments? (3) What are symbols and metaphors and how do they contribute to the human dialogue? (4) How do purpose, intention, and consciousness foster creativity and influence our perceptions of human living?Three conclusions emerged in exploring these questions: (1) Models of earlier eras are not comprehensive enough to speak about the nature of our contemporary environment. (2) Human models are creative human inventions. (3) We benefit in defining open models rather than models which attempt to be universal in an all-inclusive fashion.

Quantum mechanics impacts on many areas of physics from pure theory to applications. However it is difficult to interpret, and philosophical contradictions and counter-intuitive results are apparent at a fundamental level. This book presents current understanding of the theory, providing a historical introduction and discussing many of its interpretations. Fully revised from the first edition, this book contains state-of-the-art research including loophole-free experimental Bell test, and theorems on the reality of the wave function including the PBR theorem, and a new section on quantum simulation. More interpretations are now included, and these are described and compared, including discussion of their successes and difficulties. Other sections have been expanded, including quantum error correction codes and the reference section. It is ideal for researchers in physics and maths, and philosophers of science interested in quantum physics and its foundations.

This book offers plausible explanations for people’s puzzling unwillingness to address the human-nature interactions that have led us to the precipice that is climate change today. Humanity and nature are at war; the evidence is all around us: catastrophic weather events, rising sea levels, extinction of species, famine, wildfires, melting polar ice, millions of environmental refugees, and toxic pollution of air, water, and soil. The list goes on and on. What is causing this war, and how can it be stopped? Is this war an unintended consequence of economic and environmental imperatives pulling in opposite directions? This book takes the question—and its answer—to a deeper level. It argues that the root cause of our war on nature might be found in the time-honored, historically deep myths, narratives and stories we tell ourselves—and have been telling ourselves for centuries—about humanity’s place in (or out of) the natural world.

Contemporary data analytics involves extracting insights from data and translating them into action. With its turn towards empirical methods and convergent data sources, cognitive linguistics is a fertile context for data analytics. There are key differences between data analytics and statistical analysis as typically conceived. Though the former requires the latter, it emphasizes the role of domain-specific knowledge. Statistical analysis also tends to be associated with preconceived hypotheses and controlled data. Data analytics, on the other hand, can help explore unstructured datasets and inspire emergent questions. This volume addresses two key aspects in data analytics for cognitive linguistic work. Firstly, it elaborates the bottom-up guiding role of data analytics in the research trajectory, and how it helps to formulate and refine questions. Secondly, it shows how data analytics can suggest concrete courses of research-based action, which is crucial for cognitive linguistics to be truly applied. The papers in this volume impart various data analytic methods and report empirical studies across different areas of research and application. They aim to benefit new and experienced researchers alike.

This publication has a very specific and clear goal, which is, to focus on the needs of a variety of readers, including students, researchers, and teachers of qualitative research methods. This book not only has theoretical considerations, but also has intensely practical considerations. For students of qualitative research methods, this book provides a framework of qualitative research writing and a variety of accounts of experiences related to interview, focus group discussion (FGD), and different levels of the important aspects of writing. In addition, for experienced researchers as well as teachers of qualitative research methods, they are encouraged to study, explore, and create those aspects related to the process of qualitative research. Therefore, from this book, students can learn a framework of qualitative research writing; researchers and teachers, too, can hone their previous qualitative research writing skills and deepen their grasp of this area. Contents that embrace in this book are: Chapter 1 What is Qualitative Research Chapter 2 Type and Technique of Qualitative Research Chapter 3 Measurement in Qualitative Research Chapter 4 Interview Chapter 5 Focus Group Discussion Chapter 6 How to Write a Good Proposal? Chapter 7 How to Draw Good Analysis? Chapter 8 Example of Case Study Report
