Samantha O'Connor knows life can be short. She has known that since she was eleven years old. That's when her beloved Nana died from breast cancer. And as a nurse in Denver General's busy Emergency Department she sees people get a wake up call every day. On Halloween, she gets her own wake up call when she has a horrible car accident and ends up back in the ER dressed as Goldilocks. While recovering at her parents' house, she finds an old box of presents from Nana. It has her huge old teddy bear, a charm bracelet, her blue haired Flatsy doll, and a little black patent leather purse in it. She also finds a letter from Nana written just before she died and a caricature of herself as "Nana's Girl." This reminds Sam of who she really is. Using that as her motivation, she creates a To Do List for her life. Nana's Girl is for all who have lost someone they loved dearly, especially those who have lost someone to breast cancer. Nana never got any treatment for her breast cancer. I can only guess how she must have suffered. She never told anyone. I am sure she didn't want anyone to worry. And I am sure she didn't want to go to the hospital. She always said she hated them. She thought people died there. I don't know if treatment would have helped Nana then. That was a different time. I do know that it does help many now. It is my hope to pevent even one more person from suffering. Although Nana's Girl stems from my Nana, the story, characters and places are fictional. It was too personal to tell otherwise, and I would never have finished with any dry pages. All profits from sale of Nana's Girl will be donated to The Breast Cancer Foundation at www.bcrfcure.org in loving memory of Katherine Mahan.

"The talented Warner has previously explored the themes of friendship and change, but never more powerfully or effectively than in this piercing novel. Driven almost exclusively by dialogue, her narrative focuses on the necessarily metamorphosing relationship between the often needy 12-year-old Cady and her normally independent, feisty best friend, Nana, who is dying of cancer."--"Publishers Weekly, " starred review.

Cancer is a very frightening and mysterious disease from which children are often sheltered because parents are uncertain as to how to deal with it. This book draws upon real life episodes between a grandmother and her granddaughter to help children better understand what happens when family members are afflicted with cancer. The message it conveys is one of hope, love, and caring. Colleen Buckley resides in New Jersey with her husband. She has two married children and two grandchildren; she has been a nurse for over 25 years. Cancer is no stranger to Colleen, who has lost her father, her grandmother, and two of her sister-in-laws to this disease. Her husband, mother, and another sister-in-law are cancer survivors. In a romantic adventure that travels the globe, The Enlightenment of Bees beautifully explores what it means to find the sweet spot in life where our greatest passions meet the world’s greatest need. Sometimes a shattered heart leads to an amazing journey. At twenty-six, apprentice baker Mia West has her entire life planned out: a Craftsman cottage in Seattle, a job baking at The Butter Emporium, and her first love—her boyfriend, Ethan—by her side. But when Ethan declares he “needs some space,” Mia’s carefully planned future crumbles. Adrift and unsure where her future leads now, Mia joins her vivacious housemate Rosie on a humanitarian trip around the world funded by a reclusive billionaire. Along with a famous grunge rock star, a Rwandan immigrant, and an unsettlingly attractive Hawaiian urban farmer named Kai, Mia and Rosie embark on the adventure of a lifetime. From the slums of Mumbai to a Hungarian border camp during the refugee crisis, Mia’s heart is challenged and changed in astonishing ways—ways she never could have imagined if she hadn’t opened herself up to the opportunity. As she grapples with how to make a difference in a complicated world, Mia’s journey through self-discovery leaves her with the choice between the past she left behind and a new budding dream in her heart. “I combed through the pages with delight. This book is going to cause a real buzz.” —Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author
