These diverse and entertaining solos are "character pieces" that create a mental picture of a particular scene or episode. Students will find it easy to relate to the "picture title" of each solo in order to determine its mood, style, and tempo. By interjecting their own musical ideas (such as dynamics, lyrics, rubato, etc.), students will enjoy using their imagination to help make each scene or episode even more colorful and descriptive. Blast off with Spaceship to Mars, a wacky waltz that will leave students soaring! Written in Middle C position, the alternating ascending and descending lines feature various half and whole steps that create a quirky soundtrack to this outer space experience. Careful attention to phrasing and fingering will allow the melody to float seamlessly in the 3/4 meter. Students will notice a particularly original section featuring only whole steps. The use of pedal during this moment will be necessary for capturing that otherworldly sound. An optional duet accompaniment can be added for even more adventure. Enjoy your trip to the cosmos!

This beginning solo recreates the fun and excitement of camping out. Young students will enjoy the lyrics and the images that are brought to mind. The F major melody is divided between the hands with the left-hand thumb on Middle C and the right-hand thumb on Middle D. The 3/4 meter creates a lyrical feel, and the optional duet accompaniment provides rhythmic stability. Get your camping gear ready for this magical journey!

A great way to celebrate summer is to zip down a refreshing and fun waterslide! Now, you can relive that moment through this late-elementary piano solo. In the key of C major, slippery descending and ascending runs give the impression of shooting up, down, and all around a twisting slide.
