El propósito principal es este libro, que consta de siete capítulos, es el estudio teórico-práctico de algunos modelos matemáticos discretos en las ciencias de la naturaleza. Se dedica un primer capitulo a una breve presentación general de aportaciones de las matemáticas a las ciencias naturales, señalando algunos modelos matemáticos generados por problemas de la biología, así como aplicaciones a las ciencias de la naturaleza de modelos matemáticos que no han tenido su origen en problemas de la Ciencia. Los capítulos 2 y 3 se dedican a dar unas nociones de combinatoria y probabilidad en espacios discretos y a una pequeña introducción de la teoría de grafos. Ambos capítulos, que tienen interés por sí mismos, presenta conceptos necesarios para introducir y estudiar las cadenas de Markov, capítulos 4, 5 y 6, y el modelo de la Leslie, capítulo 7, los dos de gran utilidad para el estudio de la evolución temporal de poblaciones en las ciencias de la naturaleza, en particular en genética, zoología y ecología.

In Without Criteria, Steven Shaviro proposes and explores a philosophical fantasy: imagine a world in which Alfred North Whitehead takes the place of Martin Heidegger. What if Whitehead, instead of Heidegger, had set the agenda for postmodern thought? Heidegger asks, “Why is there something, rather than nothing?” Whitehead asks, “How is it that there is always something new?” In a world where everything from popular music to DNA is being sampled and recombined, argues Shaviro, Whitehead's question is the truly urgent one.
