This report describes tests and evaluation of 649-F plates for recording and storing multiple encoded continuous tone images for optical memories and display devices. Using this plate, up to 9 separate continuous tone images have been superimposed in a single location. Applications to graphical data storage and retrieval devices are discussed. (Author).

What Is Holographic Data Storage Holographic data storage is an emerging field of technology that has the potential to revolutionize high-capacity data storage. Holographic data storage records information all throughout the volume of the medium, whereas magnetic and optical data storage devices rely on individual bits being stored as distinct magnetic or optical changes on the surface of the recording medium. Holographic data storage is also capable of recording multiple images in the same area by utilizing light at different angles. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Holographic data storage Chapter 2: Microscopy Chapter 3: Nonlinear optics Chapter 4: Diffraction grating Chapter 5: Holography Chapter 6: Laser diode Chapter 7: Interferometry Chapter 8: Bragg's law Chapter 9: Photorefractive effect Chapter 10: Holographic Data Storage System Chapter 11: Holographic Versatile Disc Chapter 12: X-ray optics Chapter 13: Interference lithography Chapter 14: Photon-induced electric field poling Chapter 15: Computer-generated holography Chapter 16: 3D optical data storage Chapter 17: Volume hologram Chapter 18: Holographic display Chapter 19: Holographic optical element Chapter 20: Organic photorefractive materials Chapter 21: Physics of optical holography (II) Answering the public top questions about holographic data storage. The results of a study of four different hardened gelatin holographic recording materials are reported. These are the dichromated, diazo, diazo resin, and silver halide (sensitized) gelatins. The report concludes that of the four photosensitive processes studied, the silver halide (sensitized) gelatin process offers the most promising process characteristics. The silver halide gelatin process is a new holographic recording process that can be used toprepare phase volume holograms in hardened gelatin. The process uses a reversal bleach that dissolves the developed silver metal image while further crosslinking the gelatin in the vicinity of the silver image. Upon fixing and with dehydration of the resulting gelatin hologram, one obtains recordings similar to those produced by the dichromated gelatin process. This is accomplish with exposures on the order of 200 to 500 micron J/sq cm at 514.5 nm in a silver halide emulsion that has a panchromatic response. Furthermore, because the hologram has no silver halide present, the holgoram does not exhibit the printout phenomena characteristic of bleached holograms. (Author).
