Issues surrounding the much talked about Marcos Gold for several decades now. Author's Notes: -A compromise among the concerned parties will successfully fast track the much-awaited distribution of the Marcos earthly possessions. It is high time for the government to consider setting up a Gold Commission and appropriately declassifying the members of the late President's (FM) "Umbrella Foundation." Then and only then can we ascertain if there indeed is an iota of truth to this fabulous fortune, or if it is simply just another grand sting operation of such great magnitude. So many stones have circulated about the so-called fabled Marcos gold hoard; A good number of con-artists, carpetbaggers, and operators nave all provided conflicting data and information about those treasures, either to make a fast buck or to aggravate the mounting confusion, so that, in the end, no one would eventually believe that this hoard did exist after all. Our leaders should carefully consider how to deal with the other country claimants and the banking Mafia (big bankers who keep these fabled war loots). We do not have to fight them, we just need to get what's due us and what's rightfully ours. This will be the great big challenge to the administration. President Ramos has started it, and has led us to our exit from the International Monetary Fund in March 1998. If President Estrada does it right, coupled with his undoubtedly close relationship with the Marcoses, his administration is bound to achieve more. Let us start getting our act together. And may the good God usher our new leaders toward this end.

Since the mid-1990s, political, legal, and historical debates about Nazi theft and confiscation of property, the use of slave labor during World War II, and restitution and compensation have reemerged. Revisiting the National Socialist Legacy presents completely new historical research on these issues conducted worldwide. This volume responds to concern about Holocaust era assets in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. It focuses on both reexamination of the history of National Socialist property theft and employment of forced labor in the wartime economy, and the compensation and restitution solutions advanced in various European and Latin American countries since 1945.

The 1955 Asian-African conference (the "Bandung Conference") was a meeting of 29 Asian and African nations that sought to draw on Asian and African nationalism and religious traditions to forge a new international order that was neither communist nor capitalist. It led six years later to the non-aligned movement. Few would dispute the notion that the inaugural meeting in 1955 was a watershed in international history, but there is much disagreement about its long-term legacy and its significance for present-day international affairs. Determining the what, why and how of this monumental event remains a challenge for students of the Conference and of Third World international politics. Was it a post-colonial ideological reaction to the passing of the age of empire or an innovative effort to promote a new regionalism based on mutual goodwill and strong regional ties? Were its principles of peaceful coexistence a rhetorical flourish or a substantive policy initiative? Did the Conference help define North-South relations? And in what way did the Conference contribute to the regional order of contemporary Asia? -- Back cover.

This book meets the need to revise the standard interpretations of an apparently aporetic dialogue, full of eloquent silences and tricky suggestions, as it explores, among many other topics, the dramatis personae, including Plato's self-references behind the scene and the role of Socrates on stage, the question of method and refutation and the way dialectics plays a part in the dialogue. More especifically, it contains a set of papers devoted to perception and Plato's criticism of Heraclitus and Protagoras. A section deals with the problem of the relation between knowledge and thinking, including the the aviary model and the possibility of error. It also emphasizes some positive contributions to the classical Platonic doctrines and his philosophy of education. The reception of the dialogue in antiquity and the medieval age closes the analysis. Representing different hermeneutical traditions, prestigious scholars engage with these issues in divergent ways, as they shed new light on a complex controversial work.
