This Bill implements the proposals of the Government's White Paper 'Justice for All' (Cm. 5563, ISBN 0101556322) following on from the recommendations made by the Auld Review of Criminal Courts in England and Wales (2001, TSO; ISBN 011702547X). The Bill is in nine parts and contains provisions relating to: the maintenance of the courts system; giving Justices of the Peace a national jurisdiction; jurisdiction and court procedures for criminal, civil and family proceedings in Magistrates' Courts; court security; the creation of an Inspectorate of Court Administration; increased flexibility of judges to be deployed in criminal courts; procedural rules; amendment of the procedures for appeals to the House of Lords and the Court of Appeal, damages in personal injury cases and costs awards against third parties in criminal cases.
