Localisation in private international law of torts is a notoriously difficult question. How do you localize financial or moral damage? What about latent damage? Should damage in the context of cyber-torts be localized differently? The great variety of tortious actions gives rise to endless difficulties ranging from banal situations involving material damage to climate change. Trying to find suitable solutions requires answering many difficult questions, such as the very definition of damage within the meaning of private international law rules, the influence of various considerations such as foreseeability, protection of the claimant, and the remedy sought. The contributions in this volume address these questions and more from the perspectives of 17 different countries, from Austria to Venezuela.

This book resulted from a series of lecture notes presented in CISM, Udine in July 7 -11, 2008. The papers inform about recent advances in continuum damage mechanics for both metals and metal matrix composites as well as the micromechanics of localization in inelastic solids. Also many of the different constitutive damage models that have recently appeared in the literature and the different approaches to this topic are presented, making them easily accessible to researchers and graduate students in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, aerospace engineering, and material science.

Designers and operators of rotating machinery have to deal with the effects of machine vibration and wear. The increasing demands for quieter machine operation, longer machine life and a greater efficiency of operation have led to the use of sophisticated design aids. Research into rotating machinery is therefore of substantial and increasing importance. Rotordynamics '92 provides a record of some of the most recent research methods and results relating to the design and operation of rotating machinery. The conference is international in character and draws on research from a wide range of respected sources.

Fully updated, the second edition of Neuropsychology of Art offers a fascinating exploration of the brain regions and neuronal systems which support artistic creativity, talent and appreciation. This landmark book is the first to draw upon neurological, evolutionary, and cognitive perspectives, and to provide an extensive compilation of neurological case studies of professional painters, composers and musicians. The book presents evidence from the latest brain research, and develops a multidisciplinary approach, drawing upon theories of brain evolution, biology of art, art trends, archaeology, and anthropology. It considers the consequences of brain damage to the creation of art and the brain’s control of art. The author delves into a variety of neurological conditions in established artists, including unilateral stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and also evidence from savants with autism. Written by a leading neuropsychologist, Neuropsychology of Art will be of great interest to students and researchers in neuropsychology, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and neurology, and also to clinicians in art therapy.
