The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum. Every child knows about Santa Claus, the jolly man who brings gifts to all on Christmas. There are many stories that tell of his life, but the delightful version relayed in The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is by far the most charming and original of all. Only L. Frank Baum, the man who created the wonderful land of Oz, could have told Santa's tale in such rich and imaginative detail.

The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is a 1902 children's book, written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by Mary Cowles Clark. Claus, as a baby, is found in the Forest of Burzee by Ak, the Master Woodsman of the World and adopted by the Wood Nymph, Necile. It is an excellent introduction to Santa Claus since it begins with him as a baby and follows him through adulthood. As an adult, Claus settles in the Laughing Valley where he begins carving toys. Seeing that most children are good, Claus borrows two reindeer and begins delivering tows to the children. He finds that he can deliver the toys faster if he slides down chimneys and puts them under Christmas trees or in stockings hung by the chimney. Before long, Santa Claus gets help from faires, elves, and even parents and toy-making companies to get enough toys for all the children in the world.

The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum Draw close to the fire, all you who believe in the spirit of Christmas, whether you call it Santa Claus, or simply good will to men; and listen to the story of Nicholas the Wandering Orphan who became Nicholas the Wood-carver, a lover of little children. Follow him through his first years as a lonely little boy, who had the knack of carving playthings for children; then as a young man, busy over the little toys; then as a prosperous, fat, rosy old man, who overcomes all sorts of difficulties in order to attain his ambition, a toy for every child in the village. Learn how he started to drive a beautiful sleigh drawn by prancing reindeer; why he first came down a chimney; how he filled the first stocking; where the first Christmas tree was decorated; and finally how he came to be known as "Saint Nicholas" and "Santa Claus." Find out how little Claus was found as an abandoned baby and adopted by the immortal beings of a magical forest; and how, because of the kindness that was shown to him as a child, he develops a wish and mission to bring happiness to all human children; as well as how he develops his abilities to do so, through the influence of the magical beings, and the children he meets; find out how Claus starts making toys, overcomes fierce enemies, gets people to help him, and ultimately achieves immortality himself. Makes a lovely, special, Christmassy bedtime story for younger kids, but some old-fashioned words and phrases may need to be explained during the reading.
