Abstract. L'urbanisation rapide et l'augmentation de la population mondiale ont considérablement accru la pression sur les systèmes d'épuration des eaux usées en milieu urbain. Alors que les technologies d'épuration des eaux ont évolué, les défis environnementaux, économiques et sociaux persistent. Cet article explore les différentes méthodes d'épuration des eaux usées, leurs avantages et inconvénients, et aborde les controverses associées à ces pratiques. En analysant les défis tels que la croissance démographique, le vieillissement des infrastructures, et les changements climatiques, ainsi que les solutions innovantes comme les technologies vertes, la réutilisation des eaux usées, et le traitement décentralisé, nous fournissons un aperçu complet de l'état actuel et des perspectives futures de l'épuration des eaux usées en milieu urbain.
