This volume presents lectures delivered at a workshop held at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Bejing). The following articles are included: "Nonlinear Systems Control" by R. Brockett, "Adaptive Control of Discrete-Time Nonlinear Systems with Structural Uncertainties" by L.-L. Xie and L. Guo, "Networks and Learning" by P. R. Kumar, "Mathematical Aspects of the Power Control Problem in Mobile Communication Systems" by C. W. Sung and W. S. Wong, and "Brockett's Problem on Nonlinear Filtering Theory" by S. S.-T. Yau. Basic concepts and current research are both presented in this book. The volume offers a comprehensive and easy-to-follow account of many fundamental issues in this diverse field. It would be a suitable text for a graduate course on wireless communication. Titles in this series are co-published with International Press, Cambridge, MA.

These lecture notes provide a mathematical introduction to multi-agent dynamical systems, including their analysis via algebraic graph theory and their application to engineering design problems. The focus is on fundamental dynamical phenomena over interconnected network systems, including consensus and disagreement in averaging systems, stable equilibria in compartmental flow networks, and synchronization in coupled oscillators and networked control systems. The theoretical results are complemented by numerous examples arising from the analysis of physical and natural systems and from the design of network estimation, control, and optimization systems.

This monograph is sums up the development of singular system theory and provides the control circle with a systematic theory of the system. It focuses on the analysis and synthesis of singular control systems. Its distinctive features include systematic discussion of controllabilities and observabilities, design of singular or normal observers and compensators with their structural stability, systems analysis via transfer matrix, and studies of discrete-time singular systems. Some acquaintance with linear algebra and linear systems is assumed. Prospective readers are graduate students, scientists, and other researchers in control theory and its applications. Much of the material in the book is new.

This book examines the relationship between digital innovations on the one hand, and accounting and management information systems on the other. In particular it addresses topics including cloud computing, data mining, XBRL, and digital platforms. It presents an analysis of how new technologies can reshape accounting and management information systems, enhancing their information potentialities and their ability to support decision-making processes, as well as several studies that reveal how managerial information needs can affect and reshape the adoption of digital technologies. Focusing on the four major aspects data management, information system architecture, external and internal reporting, the book offers a valuable resource for CIOs, CFOs and more generally for business managers, as well as for researchers and scholars. It is mainly based on a selection of the best papers - original double blind reviewed contributions - presented at the 2015 Annual Conference of the Italian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS).

Advanced Topics in Control Systems Theory contains selected contributions written by lecturers at the second (annual) Formation d’Automatique de Paris (FAP) (Graduate Control School in Paris). It is addressed to graduate students and researchers in control theory with topics touching on a variety of areas of interest to the control community such as cascaded systems, flatness, optimal control, and Hamiltonian and infinite-dimensional systems. The reader is provided with a well-integrated synthesis of the latest thinking in these subjects without the need for an exhaustive literature review. The internationally known contributors to this volume represent many of the most reputable control centers in Europe. Advanced Topics in Control Systems Theory can be used to support either a one-term general advanced course on nonlinear control theory, devoting a few lectures to each chapter, or for more focused and intensive courses at graduate level. The book’s concise but pedagogical manner will give an ideal start to researchers wishing to broaden their knowledge in aspects of modern control theory outside their own expertise.

Control of Discrete-event Systems provides a survey of the most important topics in the discrete-event systems theory with particular focus on finite-state automata, Petri nets and max-plus algebra. Coverage ranges from introductory material on the basic notions and definitions of discrete-event systems to more recent results. Special attention is given to results on supervisory control, state estimation and fault diagnosis of both centralized and distributed/decentralized systems developed in the framework of the Distributed Supervisory Control of Large Plants (DISC) project. Later parts of the text are devoted to the study of congested systems though fluidization, an over approximation allowing a much more efficient study of observation and control problems of timed Petri nets. Finally, the max-plus algebraic approach to the analysis and control of choice-free systems is also considered. Control of Discrete-event Systems provides an introduction to discrete-event systems for readers that are not familiar with this class of systems, but also provides an introduction to research problems and open issues of current interest to readers already familiar with them. Most of the material in this book has been presented during a Ph.D. school held in Cagliari, Italy, in June 2011.
