WARNING! This is a propaganda book. I realize the word propaganda is not a word that is politically correct today. But in its original usage, it was a word coined by Pope Urban VIII. He formed the College of Propaganda in the 17th century in order to spread the Christian faith. In this sense, I AM striving for propaganda. Much of what I write in this book is meant to cause you to embrace prayer as a friend as well as a vital tool of your faith. Prayer is not boring; it is an adventure. I begin with the confession that there is probably nothing else in my spiritual life or disciplines I have struggled with more than prayer. I have read thousands of books on the subject (yes, an exaggeration), and I have been reluctant to add yet another literary work to the chaos of differing opinions, theological studies, and sure-fire methodologies that will guarantee a successful prayer life. Right! And yet, as I pondered the direction of this volume, it dawned on me that my personal journey has had little to do with theology or methodology. It hasn't even had much to do with verbiage. But it had and has everything to do with my honestly and openness before God and with what's happening in my heart at the time I'm praying. And it has everything to do with the words of Jesus--"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Our Lord wants us to pray. Always and about everything. During times of joy as well as sorrow. He wants us to talk to Him...not about Him. I've asked myself the question often lately--"Do I pray out of thoughtfulness or habit? What can I do to get my heart involved as well as my mouth?" I continue to struggle. May these writings help you in your struggle. May you enjoy your journey through the school of groaning in the days and months to come. God bless you.

In my years of studying the Bible, I have found several spiritual principles to be very appealing. I have read the promises about the possibility of being an overcomer. In the seven letters of Revelation 2 and 3, one reoccurring thing is the promises to the overcomers. If one thinks about it, you can either be an overcomer or be overcome. The choice is easy: I would rather be an overcomer. I have read the verses about the possibility of living life daily aided by heavenly wisdom. Listen to James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.” I have often asked the church, “On any given day, how often do we need the wisdom to make decisions and find needed direction?” To answer that question with “one hundred” would be conservative. To add to wisdom, we are told that we can tap into the heavenly supplies of strength, energy, power, and patience. According to James 1:5, God’s not going to fuss at you if you keep coming back again and again asking for more. The key to these and all the promises of the Bible are found in the discipline of a daily quiet time. When I was in college, with God’s help, I developed this discipline to attribute any spiritual success, any success, in my Christian life to the help I have found in this daily time with God and my Bible. To remove any excuses, I have written devotionals for my church. We have started in chapter 1, verse 1, of a book in the Bible and have worked our way through it. We have covered Genesis, Exodus, Philippians, and Leviticus, to mention a few; and as long as God gives me strength, we will continue. The pages in this book contain our thoughts and our understanding of our journey through Exodus.

A Daily Walk Through the Word is a devotional that is simple enough for a child to understand, yet filled with priceless nuggets from that old, gold mine called the Bible. Through the years, countless individuals have uncovered treasures from that book; still it remains a source of blessing that will never be exhausted. For the past four and a half years, I have written a daily devotional to encourage anyone who is seeking to have a closer walk with the Lord. The time has come for me to put them in a book and make them available as a blessing to all those who hunger and thirst for more of the Word.
