Ulysses (1922) is a novel by the Irish author James Joyce. It was first serialised in parts in the American journal The Little Review from March 1918 to December 1920, and then published in its entirety by Sylvia Beach on 2 February 1922, in Paris. Joyce's technical innovations in the art of the novel... he used a complex network of symbolic parallels drawn from the mythology, history, and literature, and created a unique language of invented words, puns, and allusions. One of the most important works of Modernist literature, it has been called "a demonstration and summation of the entire movement". "Before Joyce, no writer of fiction had so foregrounded the process of thinking." Written over a seven-year period from 1914 to 1921. No book has ever been more eagerly and curiously awaited by the strange little inner circle of book-lovers and littérateurs than James Joyce's "Ulysses".

The stern look on the cover of this book should not fool you. David Dixon Porter was one of the wittiest, most erudite men to have served in the American Civil War and once you've read his memoirs, you won't miss the twinkle in those eyes. What most Americans know about the Civil War centers around Union and Confederate land campaigns. But without the U.S. Navy, the absolutely essential blockade of southern ports could not have prevented the rebels from trading on a large scale. Even less known is the crucial role the Navy played in many of the land campaigns, including the siege of Vicksburg and operations on the James River among many others. David Porter was in the center of this action, collaborating closely with Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman. Porter was the U.S. Navy's second admiral, after his adopted brother David Farragut. This book is full of some of the most interesting anecdotes and the most important players in the American Civil War. Porter writes with great humor and describes stories you won't read in any other Civil War memoir. During Abraham Lincoln's two week visit to City Point, shortly before his assassination, Porter was by his side nearly all the time. His observations of the great man and his reminiscences of their conversations are unique in Civil War literature. For the first time, this long out-of-print volume is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones. In the final volume of the Collected Works of A.M. Klein, Elizabeth Popham completes the process of restoring the public voice of one of Canada's most respected authors. A.M. Klein: The Letters is the first compilation of a significant body of Klein's correspondence. Using his communications to construct a compelling narrative, Popham traces Klein's career from his apprenticeship to great critical success and his tragically premature silence. The content of Klein's letters gives new resonance to his works, most notably to his critically acclaimed novel The Second Scroll (1951) and his Governor General Award-winning The Rocking Chair and Other Poems (1948). In his exchanges with publishers and scholars, Klein glosses his own writing and argues for the integrity of his poetic vision. Samplings of his correspondence with Seagram's Distilleries clarify Klein's controversial role as ghost-writer and PR consultant for Sam Bronfman. A valuable resource for understanding Canadian literary modernism, diasporic Judaism, and the culture of Montreal, A.M. Klein: The Letters is a remarkable portrait of an important Canadian literary figure of the twentieth century. Elizabeth Popham is an associate professor in the Department of English Literature at Trent University

"Japhet in Search of a Father" was published in 1836, the seventh book to flow from Marryat's pen. It was the first of Marryat's books not to have a nautical setting. It is a brilliantly written book, giving us insights into aspects of nineteenth century life that we cannot easily get elsewhere. There is a sustained and fascinating magical quality about the book, which makes it very compelling reading. For many people it will be their favourite book among Marryat's works, and certainly it ranks as one of the greatest books in British literature.
