This book presents the proceedings of the 2020 International Conference on Integrated Science in Digital Age, which was jointly supported by the Institute of Certified Specialists (Russia) and Springer, and was held on May 1–3, 2020. The conference provided an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the latest innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns in the various areas of integrated science in the digital age. The main goal of the conference was to efficiently disseminate original findings in the natural and social sciences, covering topics such as blockchain & cryptocurrency; computer law & security; digital accounting & auditing; digital business & finance; digital economics; digital education; digital engineering; machine learning; smart cities in the digital age; health policy & management; and information management.

As digital technologies are expanding the power and reach of research, they are also raising complex issues. These include complications in ensuring the validity of research data; standards that do not keep pace with the high rate of innovation; restrictions on data sharing that reduce the ability of researchers to verify results and build on previous research; and huge increases in the amount of data being generated, creating severe challenges in preserving that data for long-term use. Ensuring the Integrity, Accessibility, and Stewardship of Research Data in the Digital Age examines the consequences of the changes affecting research data with respect to three issues - integrity, accessibility, and stewardship-and finds a need for a new approach to the design and the management of research projects. Based on a series of regional meetings on university campuses with officials from the national security community and academic research institutions, this report identifies specific actions that should be taken to maintain a thriving scientific research environment in an era of heightened security concerns. Actions include maintaining the open exchange of scientific information, fostering a productive environment for international scholars in the U.S., reexamining federal definitions of sensitive but unclassified research, and reviewing policies on deemed export controls. The federal government should establish a standing entity, preferably a Science and Security Commission, that would review policies regarding the exchange of information and the participation of foreign-born scientists and students in research.
