High resolution spectra of the Ge 3d and Sn 4d levels of several compounds are reported. The spectra of GeH$\sb4$ and AsH$\sb3$ demonstrate that the observed vibrational intensity is related to the metal's position on the Periodic Table. The spectra of GeF$\sb4$ and SnCl$\sb4$ prove that orbital interaction is possible between atomic levels thereby creating pseudo-bonding orbitals.

Photoemission spectroscopy is one of the most extensively used methods to study the electronic structure of atoms, molecules, and solids and their surfaces. This volume introduces and surveys the field at highest energy and momentum resolutions allowing for a new range of applications, in particular for studies of high temperature superconductors.

High resolution gas phase photoelectron spectra are reported for a series of trimethylphosphine substituted tungsten carbonyls and cyclopentadienyl derivatives of indium (CpIn) and thallium (CpTl). The advantages of using monochromatic synchrotron radiation PES for studying the electronic structure of organometallic molecules are demonstrated.
