Letter is not signed but appears to be in Knox's handwriting. Instructs Gleason to purchase 20,340 acres of land located between Belfast and New Landrian in Maine. Describes the boundary lines and also instructs Gleason to note the quality of the land. Addressee name was added at a later date.

First page signed by John Gleason, David [Fales] and Henry Knox. Page two includes a note signed by Samuel Russell and Benjamin Russell. Appears to be a note for a lot of land in Hancock Country, Maine. The note gives Benjamin Russell 100 acres of land in return for [dollar sign] 363.30 plus interest to be paid to Henry Knox over three years.

Discusses surveys of land.

Is sad to say he cannot yet leave Boston. Plans to send Gleason a sum of money via Captain E[dward] Kelleran. Discusses monies owed to a variety of people, possibly workers on Knox's estate; is apparently instructing Gleason on how much to pay each worker. Specifically discusses woodcutters.

Provides instructions for his upcoming two month absence. Discusses the quantity of wood and limestone he would like to see gathered. Says a large portion of wood can be obtained from people who are indebted to him. Provides further instructions on obtaining wood, stoves for the limestone, caring for the horses, and various other instruction on the care of Knox's house and property. Instructs Gleason to request all funds from [Thomas] Vose.

Signed by Henry Knox, and John Rynier and John Gleason as witnesses. A land bond for Robert Houston, payable to Knox. Houston gave Knox a note for [dollar sign] 290 which is to be paid in three years plus interest for a 100 acre lot in Hancock County, Maine.

A list of duties Gleason has promised to attend to during Knox's two to three month absence. The instructions mainly deal with Knox's logging and lime business, mills, his lands in Maine, and dealing with the contracts for the wood cutters.
