Communicating about risk cannot be reduced to a simple formula. There are a range of potential hazards that can pose risks to health, and these risks can vary in severity, certainty, probability, and complexity.

This report summarizes the most current information we have on the health of Canadians. As such, it is a tool to alert policy makers, practitioners and the public to current and future challenges in population health and to identify actions that will improve the health of all Canadians.

The seventh edition of the Canadian Immunization Guide was developed by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), with the support ofthe Immunization and Respiratory Infections Division, Public Health Agency of Canada, to provide updated information and recommendations on the use of vaccines in Canada. The Public Health Agency of Canada conducted a survey in 2004, which confi rmed that the Canadian Immunization Guide is a very useful and reliable resource of information on immunization.

"Malathion is a registered insecticide and acaricide used on a wide variety of sites including agricultural and non-agricultural sites. In 2018 (the most recent year for which data are available), over 25 000 kg of malathion was sold in Canada. Malathion may be released into surface water or soil as runoff from the application site. Malathion is not usually found in drinking water sources in Canada. Low levels of malathion have been found in several Canadian provinces. The maximum reported concentrations are well below the MAC. This report is designed to raise the profile of mental illness in Canada among government & non-governmental organizations and the industry, education, workplace, & academic sectors. It describes major mental illnesses and outlines their incidence & prevalence, causation, impact, stigma, and prevention & treatment. Data presented are based on currently available provincial studies & data on mortality and hospitalizations. Five mental illnesses have been selected for inclusion in the report by virtue of their high prevalence rates or because of the magnitude of their health, social, & economic impact: mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and eating disorders. While not in itself a mental illness, suicidal behaviour is also included since it is highly correlated with mental illness and raises many similar issues. The appendix includes information on data sources and a call for action on building consensus for a national action plan on mental illness & mental health.
