Benjamin Hawley (1703-1782) was born in London, England to Thomas Hawley and Frances Maling. In 1722 Benjamin immigrated to America and settled in Pennsylvania where he was active in his Quaker faith. Benjamin married Dinah Gabiter and they became the parents of six children. Descendants live in Pennsylvania, New York, Iowa, Arizona and other parts of the United States.

Smith Hawley(1847-1923) was born in Onondago County, Ontario near Hamilton and died in Ludington, Michigan. He married Gertrude Schafer (1846-1927) on 9 June 1867. She was born in Prussia, Germany. "When she was nine years of age the family emigrated to America and settled on a farm in Clinton, Co., Mich."--P.14. She died in Luddington, Michigan. Descendants lived in Michigan and elsewhere.
