Barriers have existed to deny people the chance to compete athletically based on their race, ethnic background, or sex. Some athletes, through their courage and class, have broken down the barriers that have afflicted our society, and sometimes affected greater social change. Billie Jean King changed attitudes toward women and sports with one gigantic victory, fought for equal tournament purses for female tennis players, and started a foundation that promoted athletic opportunities for women.

This book began as a ode to the oak trees of Gainesville. The city was so surrounded by these monsterous oaks it looked as if it sat in the lap of a forest. But as the city grew more and more the developers moved in and begain uprooting the trees. There was a hue and cry about saving the trees and keeping Gainesville green among the concerned. I took photos of the mighty oaks as a multi-media project, which I entiled Gainesville Green and repeated throughout the project: Mother nature made her healthy and clean, but only you and I can keep Gaineville green. Later I learned that "Gaineville Green" also referred to home grown Marijuana.

The story of “Anakim of the Sun: Being Human” is about Father Antonio Rivera, a vampire who became a priest in the hopes of being cured of his blood lust. Though a member of The Church, Antonio finds himself at odd when he must confront his past and is forced to face the one thing he never did: give himself completely to God. By doing so, he realizes the theme behind the Gospel according to John: the road to Heaven is black and white; everything you do, say, think and feel will either take you closer to Heaven or take you closer to Hell... but ultimately, it’s your decision. “Anakim of the Sun: Being Human” was originally published under Author House in 2004 as “the Anakim”, but the story and ownership of the manuscript and characters still belong solely to Dan Gonzalez and were originally finalized in the year 2000 after eight years of story and character development.
