Le terme promotion de la santé en Afrique, près de 30 ans après l'adoption de la Charte d'Ottawa, continue d'avoir des connotations complètement hors du sens que lui confère cette charte. Cela n'est pas étonnant quand on sait que la notion de santé dans ce contexte africain équivaut à la lutte contre la maladie à travers les soins de santé dispensés par des professionnels de la santé dans des formations sanitaires et les hôpitaux. L'évolution que connait le continent depuis quelques décennies est de donner un peu plus de place à la communauté à travers les relais communautaires dans une participation communautaire vidée de son contenu, car le pouvoir n'est jamais passé entre les mains des communautés.C'est au vu de tout ceci que le présent ouvrage à sa raison d'être pour expliquer les fondements de l'autonomisation communautaire et de la promotion de la santé avec leur importance pour la région africaine en proie aux mauvais indicateurs de santé comparativement aux autres régions du monde.

Widespread changes are now occurring in the way doctors are trained, both at the undergraduate level and ongoing postgraduate continuing medical education. Health and social care in every system and in every country is labour intensive, and must be oriented to people's needs if it is to be effective. It is now widely recognized that human resources for health (HRH) are a key enabler for the attainment of universal health coverage, and for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. As is stressed in the Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030, there can be no viable national, or global, health system without an effective health workforce. The Global Strategy, adopted at the Sixty-ninth World Health Assembly in May 2016, challenges the erroneous narrative of health workers as a unit of cost in the production of health. The evidence instead presents an intersectoral agenda on the pre-condition of equitable access to health workers in the attainment of universal health coverage, along with a dynamic labour market understanding of the substantive impact on education, employment, jobs and innovation in the health and social care economy. The Global Strategy, therefore, enables governments and other relevant stakeholders to adopt a holistic, rather than fragmented, approach to ensuring that the health workforce contributes both to improved health and to broader socioeconomic development.

Evidence based or empirically supported psychotherapies are becoming more and more important in the mental health fields as the users and financers of psychotherapies want to choose those methods whose effectiveness are empirically shown. Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies are shown to have empirical support in the treatment of a wide range of psychological/psychiatric problems. As a cognitive-behavioral mode of action, Problem Solving Therapy has been shown to be an effective psychotherapy approach in the treatment and/or rehabilitation of persons with depression, anxiety, suicide, schizophrenia, personality disorders, marital problems, cancer, diabetes-mellitus etc. Mental health problems cause personal suffering and constitue a burden to the national health systems. Scientific evidence show that effective problem solving skills are an important source of resiliency and individuals with psychological problems exhibit a deficiency in effective problem solving skills.
