This volume addresses the challenges faced by value-added networking and innovation, both for firms' strategies and public policies in a context increasingly influenced by dynamics of interacting networks that underlie knowledge, creation, diffusion, and utilization. Part one deals with national institutions and policies to support science, networking, and innovation, ranging from legislation affecting university business relationships, national support systems for high-technology firms, to systems through which country brands can be developed. Part two addresses the need for value-added learning by local and regional governments concerning the building of an innovation system and the adoption of new ICT applications in cities. Part three focuses on firms, their management and strategies, and their performance in terms of innovativeness and growth.

Based on the importance of human beings as creators and managers of knowledge towards the achievement of sustainability in the current digital age, this book is an effort to present many studies taking individuals as centers of knowledge and starting points for environmental, social, and economic development. Discurso y conocimiento se trata de un libro sobre las maneras que tienen los usuarios del lenguaje en gestionar el conocimiento en el discurso. Trata sobre el tipo de conocimiento general, sociocultural, que periodistas y lectores, entre muchos otros usuarios del lenguaje, han de tener para ser capaces de escribir o leer y comprender una noticia, para participar en una conversación, para dictar una clase o participar en reuniones profesionales, así como para muchos otros géneros de discursos. Hay muchos miles de libros sobre conocimiento, en variadas disciplinas, y muchos cientos de libros sobre discurso. Sin embargo, pese a las múltiples e interesantes relaciones entre las dos nociones, no existe ni siquiera una monografía que, sistemáticamente, se centre en el estudio de esas relaciones. La intención de este libro es, justamente, hacer eso. En esta monografía hemos mostrado, necesariamente a los más altos y, por lo tanto, más superficiales niveles, que el estudio del conocimiento se debe llevar a cabo de una manera profundamente integrada, como acabamos de mostrar en las últimas décadas para el estudio del discurso.
