Game theory is a branch of modern applied mathematics that aims to analyze various problems of conflict between parties that have opposed, similar or simply different interests. Games are grouped into several classes according to some important features. In this volume zero-sum two-person games, strategic n-person games in normal form, cooperative games, games in extensive form with complete and incomplete information, differential pursuit games and differential cooperative n-person games are considered.

This contributed volume focuses on aspects of dynamic game theory including differential games, evolutionary games, and stochastic games. It covers theoretical developments, algorithmic methods, and applications to fields as varied as mathematical biology, environmental management, economics, engineering, guidance and control, and social interaction. Its contributions, written by experts in their respective disciplines, are outgrowths of presentations originally given at the 15th International Symposium of Dynamic Games and Applications held July 19–22, 2012, in Byšice, Czech Republic.

Game theory has proven useful to represent and conceptualize problems of conflict and cooperation in a formal way, and to predict the outcome of such situations. Differential games are dynamic games that are particularly designed to study systems where observations and decisions are made in real time. The book conveys to the reader the state of the art of research in marketing applications of differential game theory. This research started about 25 years ago and the literature has now reached an extent and a maturity that makes it natural to take stock. The book deals with differential games in advertising, pricing, and marketing channels, as well as with marketing-production and pricing-advertising interfaces. It provides also a tutorial on main concepts in differential games.

Game theory is the science of interaction. This textbook, derived from courses taught by the author and developed over several years, is a comprehensive, straightforward introduction to the mathematics of non-cooperative games. It teaches what every game theorist should know: the important ideas and results on strategies, game trees, utility theory, imperfect information, and Nash equilibrium. The proofs of these results, in particular existence of an equilibrium via fixed points, and an elegant direct proof of the minimax theorem for zero-sum games, are presented in a self-contained, accessible way. This is complemented by chapters on combinatorial games like Go; and, it has introductions to algorithmic game theory, traffic games, and the geometry of two-player games. This detailed and lively text requires minimal mathematical background and includes many examples, exercises, and pictures. It is suitable for self-study or introductory courses in mathematics, computer science, or economics departments.

The ~irst international con~erence on differential games was held at Amherst, Massachusetts, in September 1969. A second meeting, partially supported by N.A.T.O., was held in Varenna, Italy, in June 1970. At these conferences many new theoretical results and applications, especially in economic problems, were presented. The present volume consists o~ the lectures presented at a N.A.T.O. Advanced Study Institute on the "Theory and Applications of Differential Games" held at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England, from 27th August to 6th September, 1974. The main contributions during the first week consisted of a survey of two person zero sum differential games by L. D. Berkovitz and four integrated lectures by R. J. Elliott and N. J. Kalton, who have made important contributions to the concept of "value" of a differential game. Applications were featured during the second week and included tactical air games, pursuit and evasion problems, as well as computational aspects. A closing lecture with historical perspectives was given by Rufus Issacs, the recognised pioneer of differential games theory.

This book presents current advances in the theory of dynamic games and their applications in several disciplines. The selected contributions cover a variety of topics ranging from purely theoretical developments in game theory, to numerical analysis of various dynamic games, and then progressing to applications of dynamic games in economics, finance, and energy supply.
