This School focussed on computation in theoretical particle physics. Accordingly, it had large components on collider phenomenology and lattice gauge theory. A number of lectures on current topics in modern mathematical physics (conformal field theory, quantum gravity, and sphalerons) were included.

The implications of the latest results from high energy experiments as well as non-accelerator experiments are discussed in this proceedings. This conference celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first Rochester Conference and honours Prof. Susumu Okubo on his 60th birthday. The original Rochester Conference brought a small group of leading physicists to discuss current results and trends in both theory and experiment. The present conference has also adhered to this format — covering the developments in particle physics over the last forty years and presenting the latest theoretical and experimental results in the field.

The Theoretical Advanced Study Institute (TASI) has become the major summer school for advanced students in elementary particle theory in the United States, offering courses in particle theory, phenomenology, and mathematical physics. The theme of the 1990 school, 'Testing the Standard Model', was chosen because of the many new high precision results that had recently become available from the TEVATRON, SLC, and LEP. The goal was to explore the theoretical background and implications of experiments at these and future facilities, both in and beyond the standard model.
