This is the story of one woman's quest to discover ways to find freedom from loneliness.A staggering 78% of us will suffer from feeling lonely during our lives and 11% of people often struggle with loneliness. Loneliness can have serious effects on both mental and physical health. The emphasis on online rather than face-to-face communication, changing work patterns and the increasing number of single-person households are exacerbating the problem of loneliness in today's society. Yet it's something that is seldom talked about.Fed up with the "just get out more" approach, the "you need to make new friends" approach and the "improve your social skills" approach, author Jennifer Page decided to do her own research into practical ways of making more meaningful connections in her life.Foreword by Pam Rhodes, presenter of BBC Songs of Praise.20% of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to the registered charity, Mary's Meals.

In this no-holds-barred, provocative book, Terri Laxton Brooks tells a story that often remains hidden— that of a successful professional who has many friends and family and yet all her life has struggled with a loneliness she’s never revealed to anyone. Terri thinks her feelings of isolation will end with her marriage to her childhood sweetheart and their move from a farm town to the city of Chicago. But once the sheen of newlywed passion wears off, her husband, by nature reticent, grows even more emotionally distant. In her new job as a reporter for a Chicago paper, Terri hides her loneliness under a flurry of bylines and deadlines. But she can’t shake a feeling she’s had since childhood—of failure to connect, not just as a wife but also as a daughter, friend, and colleague—and soon she and her husband separate. Adrift, Terri contemplates suicide. Could a move to different city, to a fresh start, solve her problem? Terri’s decision to transplant herself to New York City forces her hand in a way she never imagined: it plunges her into a loneliness so total that out of desperation she grabs the key to her own salvation— ; love of interviewing, researching, hearing people’s stories. After starting therapy, her curiosity leads her into four years of soul-searching conversations with America’s leading psychologists and psychiatrists about how to cope with loneliness, why it is a normal and necessary stage of healthy growth, and how to stop resisting it. She explores with growing understanding intimate details of her dreams, her past traumas, and her role in her own loneliness—and learns not only how to live comfortably with that loneliness but how to use it to her advantage.

A riveting and redemptive family memoir, The Four Walls of My Freedom is Donna Thomson’s account of raising a son with cerebral palsy and a passionate appeal to change the way we think about “the good life.” Donna Thomson’s life was forever changed when her son Nicholas was born with cerebral palsy. A former actor, director, and teacher, Donna became his primary caregiver and embarked on a second career as a disability activist, author, and consultant. Thomson vividly describes her experience in treading delicately through daily care, emergencies, and medical bureaucracy as she and her family cope with her son’s condition while maintaining value and dignity (for Nicholas, too). She brilliantly demonstrates the vital contribution that people with disabilities make to our society and addresses the ethics and economics of giving and receiving care. Featuring an introduction by John Ralston Saul, and two new chapters, The Four Walls of My Freedom is a passionate appeal to change to the way we think about the “good life” that will touch anyone caring for the life of another.

Poetry can be a medicine that heals and sustains. Everyone had their own way of surviving. Some people escape from circumstances in their lives by drinking, doing drugs, falling into depression, and many other things, not knowing that there is a healthier way out and most importantly, seeing hope, peace and light at the end! I survived with everyday life problems by reading and writing poetry. Poetry is a form of expression. Poetry can touch your heart and soul forever making a change in your life for the better. Allowing you to forget about your past failures and hurts and motivating you to move forward into the future with much success and happiness. Its something about poetry that frees the spirit; the words in a poem seem to take wings that can fly in and out of our spirits that only the eye of the spirit and the ear of the heart can define. It is often said that poetry travels straight to ones heart. We all hurt at times, from failed relationships, the death of a loved one, sickness, addiction or whatever. But know that God sees you and all you are going through and He is working on your behalf whether you see it or not. Just trust in God for He has all the answers. My reason for writing Freedom Love is to help heal hurting people through my poetry. Letting them know that I understand what they are feeling and what they are going through, but also letting them know that you can overcome the obstacles in your life, filled with peace, love, happiness, success, direction, and answers. Then you will be able to move forward with fulfilling your dreams and future goals, trusting and having faith in God.
