These five stories are either partially set in Cornwall, or future Cousin Jacks, as Cornish hard rock mines are called, world wide and beyond. In the first, Cousin Jack story, the modern bearer of a famous Cornish name, Richard Trevithick, has a spotlight in human history. He believes the spotlight shone on Cornwall, which, with its mineral wealth, ushered in the Industrial revolution. Now, large Nations have been broken up into small ones, by the Financial Interests of the Three Cities Federation. Both the Republic of California and Cornish Free State face serious problems from debt defaults. Trevithick, knowledgeable about Lyall and Hutton, believes the spotlight can once more fall on Cornwall, as he sets out to mine gold on Mars. The second story, about rich Lulu Belle, features a Cornish miner and poet on Mars, The third story, Trainee St. Agnes, is a re-telling of an old Cornish Legend. The fourth story Intellectual Property, is one of the author's Patent Attorney stories sent in Corwnall. The final story, When The Magic Went Away, is, in part a fantasy relating to King Arthur myths with overtones of World War II.

Five Million Tides is the story of Cornwall's Helford River from the Stone Age to the dawning of the twenty-first century. From prehistoric pioneers and their megalithic successors, this account goes on to expose a remarkable truth: the Helford became one of Europe's most significant waterways during the Iron Age and Roman periods. Despite being mainland Britain's southernmost safe haven, it has not always been a place of good fortune – once a thriving seat of Celtic Christianity the river would ultimately become more synonymous with lawless seafarers. Nor could it be relied upon for sanctuary from every storm, as the graves of mariners in its village churchyards attest. Although now overshadowed by its more famous sibling estuaries, the Helford is an enigmatic beauty of the family whose rich past deserves wider knowledge.

"Kennedy is not only a romantic but an anarchist." —Anita Brookner Summer, 1947. A bizarre catastrophe rocks a seaside village in Cornwall when a cliff tumbles down on the Pendizack Manor Hotel. The hotel is obliterated, and seven guests are killed in the disaster. Everyone else makes a narrow escape. As the survivors tell their stories, the events of the previous week are revealed, and a parade of sins exposed. Gluttony, Lecherousness, Sloth, Pride, Covetousness, Envy and Wrath: all are in residence at Pendizack Manor, and as the day of the disaster creeps closer, it becomes clear that who’s spared and who’s lost might not be as arbitrary as first assumed. A modern upstairs-downstairs comedy with an old-fashioned morality play tucked away inside, The Feast is sly, kaleidoscopic, and utterly ingenious, a novel that only Margaret Kennedy could have written.
