An Introduction to Political Science in Nigeria attempts to fill the void in the literature for undergraduate and graduate students in the Third World, particularly Nigeria, that are studying the arts, humanities, social sciences, education, and law. Primarily intended for introductory courses in political science and, specifically, Nigerian government, the material covers such areas as the foundations of political science, key concepts of political thought, political systems, citizenship, world order, and politics.

Nigeria has experienced different forms of crises and instability since she became independent on October 1 1960. The country has also been under different forms of rule - from the Westminster system of parliamentary democracy in the First Republic (1960-1966),to prolonged periods of military rule (1966-1979, 1983-1999) to a presidential system of governance (1979-1983, 1999-present). During these periods, there have been several contentious issues that appear to permanently put the country on the precipice. In this collection of essays, Isawa Elaigwu, a professor emeritus of political science reflects on the country's painful political experiences, arguing that it is necessary for Nigerians to understand the past and actively participate in the present in order to create a brighter future for the country. The essays in the book therefore serve as the links between the country's yesterday and today as foundations for the future.

This book utilizes sociological imagination to analyze and describe the issue of the neglected majority in human society. It focuses on how the poor and underclass including women and the disable are perceived and treated by the society and the response of the dominant class to the condition of those neglected. It attempts to see through some approaches through which the affected and the neglected, especially women, can help ameliorate their own neglect by the authority. The book saw disability as not a liability but a challenge which can be overcome by the affected. The major interesting idea in the book is the authors belief that the neglect should not believe in the utopic idea that the social system as it is constituted will come to their rescue. The authors instead assert that the success of the neglected class remains with the neglected themselves. By a concerted effort, disability will become ability, and women by cooperating in women development organizations will overcome the limitation placed on them by the society.
