This revised edition of Fifth Generation Management helps executives out of the rigid mindsets of the Industrial Era into the vibrant and invigorating possibilities of co-creation in the Knowledge Era. Divided into two parts, the first completely rewritten section narrates 'Five Days that Changed the Enterprise', a case study of senior executives who are forced out of their cozy little empires into a new network organization of their own design. The second part discusses the process of co-creating through virtual enterprising, dynamic teaming, and knowledge networking. Included is essential new information on fractal enterprises, holonic management systems, agile enterprises, and hypertext organizations. Charles Savage is president of Knowledge Era Enterprises, Inc and was formerly in the consultant division of DIgital Equipment Corporation. He presents 'Master Classes' on dynamic teaming and virtual enterprising and has written extensively on the knowledge era. His company's logo is a key with the phrase "Unlocking the Future". Charles Savage assists companies around the world to achieve that goal. Over 40,000 copies of previous edition sold world-wide Previous edition was awarded 'Book of the Year' by Tom Peters. Covers lessons learned over the last five years since Fifth Generation Management was first published.

Tom Peter's Book of the Year! 'Book of the Year: This year's honors go to Charles Savage for Fifth Generation Management. Savage joins a select few ... who exquisitely explain tomorrow's bizarre organizational arrangements, where hierarchies are levelled and the imagery of networks and spider webs butts out yesterday's pyramids.' Tom Peters, Co-author of In Search Of Excellence Explore the shift from steep top-down management to human networking, as companies with second-generation management attempt to absorb fourth- and fifth-generation technologies, like computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) and computer-integrated enterprises (CIE). This provocative yet readable book looks into the assumptions, values, and ways of relating in the workplace that must change as companies move beyond the 'technology wall' into the future.

A reliable and focused treatment of the emergent technology of fifth generation (5G) networks This book provides an understanding of the most recent developments in 5G, from both theoretical and industrial perspectives. It identifies and discusses technical challenges and recent results related to improving capacity and spectral efficiency on the radio interface side, and operations management on the core network side. It covers both existing network technologies and those currently in development in three major areas of 5G: spectrum extension, spatial spectrum utilization, and core network and network topology management. It explores new spectrum opportunities; the capability of radio access technology; and the operation of network infrastructure and heterogeneous QoE provisioning. 5G Networks: Fundamental Requirements, Enabling Technologies, and Operations Management is split into five sections: Physical Layer for 5G Radio Interface Technologies; Radio Access Technology for 5G Networks; 5G Network Interworking and Core Network Advancements; Vertical 5G Applications; and R&D and 5G Standardization. It starts by introducing emerging technologies in 5G software, hardware, and management aspects before moving on to cover waveform design for 5G and beyond; code design for multi-user MIMO; network slicing for 5G networks; machine type communication in the 5G era; provisioning unlicensed LAA interface for smart grid applications; moving toward all-IT 5G end-to-end infrastructure; and more. This valuable resource: Provides a comprehensive reference for all layers of 5G networks Focuses on fundamental issues in an easy language that is understandable by a wide audience Includes both beginner and advanced examples at the end of each section Features sections on major open research challenges 5G Networks: Fundamental Requirements, Enabling Technologies, and Operations Management is an excellent book for graduate students, academic researchers, and industry professionals, involved in 5G technology.

The Japan Information Processing Development Centre (JIPDEC) established a committee for Study and Research on Fifth-Generation Computers. Beginning in 1979, this Committee set out on a two-year investigation into the most desirable types of computer systems for application in the 1990`s (fifth-generation computers) and how the development projects aimed at the realization of these systems should be carried forward. This book contains the papers presented at the International Conference on Fifth Generation Computer Systems. Included among these papers is a preliminary report on the findings of the Committee.
