FACTORFICTION is a compilation of eleven short stories. Four of these stories were originally published in separate issues of The Knight Stick, the New Hampshire Police Association's quarterly magazine, in the early 1980's. These On The Lighter Side humorous stories are about automobiles of that period. Most of the remaining stories are based upon factual happenings entwined with imaginative fiction. I included 50th ANNIVERSARY in this book in spite of my editor's comment that it didn't belong in the same volume with the other stories due to its absence of humor.

Whether you believe that man evolved from the apes (Darwinism) or that man was created in God's own image (religion), man has questioned the whats and whys of his surroundings. Why does the sun rise and set? Why does it rain? Why do dinosaurs eat us? As time went by, man learned those answers, but there were always many more questions to be answered. From the time, we left the trees and caves to present man we have learned much about what goes on in our planet, the planets closest to us, and our solar system. Even as we continue to learn about the deepest parts of our own oceans and the deepest parts of space around us, there are still mysteries occurring around us every day that we don't know the answers to or even understand. This book brings to light some of those mysteries, explaining the history around them; discussing the opinions, beliefs, and options; and allowing you, the reader, to decide for yourself whether the story is fact or fiction.

At only a page each in length, Richard Mallinsons elegantly structured short stories are a pithy fast fiction for a modern multi-media age. A rapid succession of carefully worked observations, the stories read like a dynamic anthology of lifes collisions and interactions; its projected plans and unexpected rotations. There is a great joy in the subverted (the interviewer becomes the interviewee; the private detective becomes the conspirator) as well as an interest in the open-ended. Possibility abounds for these are always tales of the present; the past is unclear and the future unwritten. Adhering to the strict one-page format, the writing is marvelously precise: it is highly disciplined, but infinitely rich, conjuring the most unique and sharply observed characters with remarkably few words. If indeed, we read fiction... in order to meet individuals as the character Tolson declares in Mallinsons, Tolsons Creed, then in this anthology we are introduced to a plethora of distinct personalities, rendered all the more compelling by their relentless unpredictability.

The author develops the problem of God in a stimulating way, by exploring science, philosophy, history, and other disciplines. He concludes that God does not exist because the supernatural does not exist - and therefore God, an entity of the supernatural, also does not exist. He regards religion as the biggest hoax ever released on mankind. With his great erudition and critical reasoning, he will incite the reader to serious thought. The controversial topic will provoke a great deal of criticism and perhaps consequently contribute to clarification of the God's problem. The main concern of the author remains the quest for truth from every possible angle. The book is a modern testament.
