This book is intended for new Muslims who have just accepted Islām and non-Muslims interested in Islām or almost about to accept Islām. It is also useful for Muslims wishing to revise or learn the basics of Islām in a concise manner and parents wishing to give their children a good foundation in the basics. This book serves all of these purposes at once and has been written specifically with all of this in mind. Utterance of the two testifications (shahādatān) regarding monotheism (tawḥīḍ) and messengership (risālah) enter a person into Islām. This declaration has a meaning (maʿnā), requirements (muqtaḍā), conditions (shurūṭ) and nullifiers (nawāqiḍ) which must be understood well. After a person enters Islām, he or she establishes the remaining pillars of Islām whilst seeking knowledge to increase inward Īmān, which is faith. Thereafter, he or she strives for Iḥsān which is excellence, and for the perfection of character.

The Six Fundamental Principles is one of the numerous short articles written by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab in his effort to spread tawhīd (Islamic monotheism) in the Arabian Peninsula. His works are distinguished by their brevity, ease of understanding, and reliance on texts from the Qur'ān and Sunnah. The current book is the translation of an explanation made by the illustrious scholar, Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan.

The most virtuous of words - the word of Tawhīd- Lā Ilaha Illā-Allāh- will not be accepted by mere utterance on the tongue. Rather, an implementation of its fundamental principles is necessary. For example, disproving polytheism and affirming the oneness of Allāh with a firm belief and adherence to all that it entails. This is the only way can anyone be considered a Muslim or be in the fold of the people of Tawhīd (Lā Ilaha Illā-Allāh). This great word signifies the falsehood of any deity besides Allāh. To affirm any deity other than Allāh is the most atrocious aggression and most evil deviation.

Indeed, Islam is the great religion which guides to the truth and an upright path. Truthfulness is Islam's slogan, and Justice is its axis. The truth is its makeup, Mercy is its essence and objective, good is its partner, integrity and reform are its beauty and actions while Guidance and the right path are its provisions. For this reason, the greatest form of honor achieved by the servant is guidance to this religion: the success to cling to it, adherence to its guidance, faithfulness to its evidences and directives; and complete remoteness and warning from every forbidden matter.The honor with which Islam bestows the Muslim woman with is among its perfection and beauty, it is a protection for them. Islam has concern for women's rights and prevents them from being oppressed and transgressed upon, and their weakness being taken advantage of and what is similar to that.Islam has made for her and those who live with her tremendous guidelines: instructions filled with wisdom, and upright directives which will ensure for her a pleasant life, an existence full of equality, delight, and happiness in this worldly life and the Hereafter.
