Les professionnels de santé de la périnatalité ont un rôle majeur dans la prise en charge des patientes au cours de leur grossesse et dans le post-partum. Cependant la prise en charge des patientes présentant une situation de déficience intellectuelle demande une implication plus importante et différente de leur part. Le vocabulaire riche et diversifié obtenu au sein de notre étude nous a permis de mettre en évidence une ambivalence de la part des professionnels sur le regard qu’ils portent sur les capacités parentales de ces parents en situation de DI légère. La situation de déficience intellectuelle légère est abordée par des aspects positifs avec la mise en avant de réelles capacités parentales et, dans un même temps, avec une vision plus pessimiste avec la nécessité d’un accompagnement particulier pour pallier aux difficultés inhérentes au handicap. Malgré des émotions d’empathie ressenties par les professionnels, les difficultés d’intégration sociale ainsi que la dépendance et le besoin d’assistance dans la prise en charge de leur nouveau-né sont toujours bien présentes.
