Este Manual se diseñó con el objetivo principal de facilitar y ayudar en las intervenciones a los profesionales de la conducta humana y de esta forma lograr ser de beneficio para tratar a los niños o adolescentes que han sido víctimas de acoso escolar. Así mismo, esperamos que con esta herramienta y con ayuda de un especialista, las víctimas puedan desarrollar las destrezas necesarias que minimicen la exposición a experiencias similares y trabajen experiencias previas de forma adecuada. Como especialista en el área de salud mental, esperamos que el contenido de este manuscrito aporte conocimiento, así cómo estrategias específicas y ejercicios para que de esta forma se maneje la problemática del acoso escolar. Pues entendemos que si los profesionales tienen el conocimiento y las herramientas necesarias para intervenir en este tipo de conducta, pueden proveer mejores servicios o ayuda; de modo que redunden en beneficio para la salud mental y/o emocional de las víctimas.

Los adolescentes olvidan sus juguetes infantiles para vérselas con una nueva pareja: su cuerpo sexualizado que les produce extrañeza y los inquieta. Es allí donde la tentación del bullying aparece como una falsa salida: manipular el cuerpo del otro bajo formas diversas (ninguneo, agresión, exclusión, injuria) les permite poner a resguardo el suyo. Para eso hay que designar un chivo expiatorio y golpear y destruir esa diferencia que se le imputa a la víctima y que deviene, para algunos, insoportable porque confronta a cada uno con la asunción de su sexualidad y con encontrar un lugar en ese nuevo mundo que sucede a la adolescencia. Abordar el acoso implica acompañar a esos adolescentes en su delicado tránsito.

Observers or bystanders are students who do not suffer or practice bullying, but who witness bullying. They are participants because they do not report it to teachers or parents. They live in the same environment in which the situation occurs, but they do not reveal it for fear of becoming the next victims.

Volume CCIS 1654 is part of the refereed proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2022, which was held virtually during June 26 to July 1, 2022. A total of 5583 individuals from academia, research institutes, industry, and governmental agencies from 88 countries submitted contributions, and 1276 papers and 275 posters were included in the proceedings that were published just before the start of the conference. Additionally, 296 papers and 181 posters are included in the volumes of the proceedings published after the conference, as “Late Breaking Work” (papers and posters). This brief presents a new approach to the study of bullying and prejudice in school settings, analyzing the particularities of these two forms of violence and relating them to the hierarchies that distinguish students based on academic performance and popularity. Analyzing data gathered by surveys carried out between 2010 and 2014 with 274 students from public schools of São Paulo, Brazil, the authors show that, despite bullying and prejudice are related, they have specific characteristics that need to be acknowledged in order to help educators develop more efficient initiatives to prevent them. Building upon the Critical Theory of Society – especially Adorno’s studies of authoritarian personality and school hierarchies – the authors develop a theoretical framework that helps researchers and educators to identify the particularities of bullying and prejudice and develop specific strategies to deal with them. In addition, the empirical and theoretical elements presented in the book show how these forms of violence are related to the two hierarchies that exist side by side in schools – the official hierarchy that distinguishes good and bad students based on their academic performance and the unofficial hierarchy characterized by the distinction between those who excel in dating, fighting, in team sports and those who do not excel in any of these activities.
