An ECG, or electrocardiogram, is a simple test that records the rhythm and electrical activity of the heart. It is commonly used to detect abnormal heart rhythms and investigate the cause of chest pains. It is important for clinicians to recognise and interpret ECG patterns accurately to ensure correct diagnosis and effective treatment. This atlas is a quick reference tool presenting numerous normal and abnormal ECG patterns and schematic diagrams. Each case is accompanied by a brief commentary discussing the abnormality. The book is divided into two sections – Deep Analysis Section and Quick Diagnosis Section, giving trainees a strong foundation of the concept of ECG, and then an understanding of the diagnosis of a wide range of cardiac abnormalities. Key points Quick reference presenting normal and abnormal ECG patterns Brief commentary helps explain each case Includes self assessment section Nearly 300 ECG graphs, schematic diagrams and illustrations

Divided roughly into two sections, this book provides a brief history of the development of ECG along with heart rate variability (HRV) algorithms and the engineering innovations over the last decade in this area. It reviews clinical research, presents an overview of the clinical field, and the importance of heart rate variability in diagnosis. The book then discusses the use of particular ECG and HRV algorithms in the context of clinical applications.

With cardiovascular diseases being one of the main causes of death in the world, quantitative modeling, assessment and monitoring of the cardiovascular control system plays a critical role in bringing important breakthroughs to cardiovascular care. Quantification of cardiovascular physiology and its control dynamics from physiological recordings and by use of mathematical models and algorithms has been proved to be of important value in understanding the causes of cardiovascular diseases and assisting the prognostic or diagnostic process. Nowadays, development of new recording technologies (e.g., electrophysiology, imaging, ultrasound, etc) has enabled us to improve and expand acquisition of a wide spectrum of physiological measures related to cardiovascular control. An emerging challenge is to process and interpret such increasing amount of information by using state-of-the-art approaches in systems modeling, estimation and control, and signal processing, which would lead to further insightful scientific findings. In particular, multi-disciplinary engineering-empowered approaches of studying cardiovascular systems would greatly deepen our understanding of cardiovascular functions (e.g., heart rate variability, baroreflex sensitivity) and autonomic control, as it would also improve the knowledge about heart pathology, cardiovascular rehabilitation and therapy. Meanwhile, developing cardiovascular biomedical devices or heart-machine interface for either clinical monitoring or rehabilitation purpose is of greater and greater interest for both scientific advancement and potential medical benefits. This Research Topic will bring together established experts whose areas of research cover a wide range of studies and applications. Contributions include but are not limited to state-of-the-art modeling methodologies, algorithmic development in signal processing and estimation, as well as applications in cardiovascular rehabilitation, and clinical monitoring. The Research Topic will consider both invited reviews and original research.

Essentials of Small Animal Anesthesia and Analgesia, Second Edition presents the fundamentals of managing small animal anesthesia patients in a clinically relevant, accessible manual. The bulk of the book is distilled from Lumb and Jones' Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia to provide authoritative information in a quick-reference format, with references to Lumb and Jones' throughout for easy access to further detail. Logically reorganized with an easy-to-use structure and an increased focus on pain management, this new edition features new chapters on equipment and managing specific conditions. The Second Edition has been updated to reflect current practices in anesthesia and analgesia, and a new companion website offers review questions and answers, video clips, and an image bank with additional figures not found in the printed book. Essentials of Small Animal Anesthesia and Analgesia, Second Edition provides veterinary care providers and students with key information on anesthetic and analgesic pharmacology, physiology, patient assessment, and clinical case management.
