Daniel, Joseph's donkey, tells the story of his trip to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus.

Daniel is a long-eared miniature donkey who is bullied by the much older and stronger donkeys, which causes him to stay by himself. Then one day, a man named Joseph comes along and buys him from his kindly owner. On his new adventure, he gets to help carry Joseph's wife, Mary, to Bethlehem so she can have her baby. In the manger, he meets the animals that live there, and they quickly become friends. Together they discover new things about themselves and the new baby. They also learn what his birth means for the world through hope, peace, joy, and love.

This book is about the donkey that carried Mary to Bethlehem. Don, the Donkey, tells the story though his own eyes about what happened from the time the Roman soldiers came to Nazareth, until the shepherds left after having seen the Messiah.
