Inspire a deep and lasting love of science in young students The way students view scientific knowledge is largely dependent on their early experiences with science instruction. With so much attention paid to student performance relative to the rest of the world, it is imperative for science teachers to engage elementary learners in ways that foster prolonged interest, deep conceptual understanding, and success in middle and high school as well as beyond. Combining the latest findings in the science of learning with student- and teacher-tested techniques, From Snorkelers to Scuba Divers provides the framework essential for encouraging students to shed their snorkels and plunge into the world of science. Readers will find: Evidence-based, research-driven strategies that encourage both deep thinking and conceptual understanding Classroom examples that demonstrate each aspect of the standards-based instructional framework in action Professional development tasks that provide teachers with support in implementing strategies for students at all levels, from surface to deep This teacher-friendly resource is invaluable for preparing learners to approach science with creativity, confidence, and insight.

Science occupies an ambiguous space in contemporary society. Scientific research is championed in relation to tackling environmental issues and diseases such as cancer and dementia, and science has made important contributions to today’s knowledge economies and knowledge societies. And yet science is considered by many to be remote, and even dangerous. It seems that as we have more science, we have less understanding of what science actually is. The new edition of this popular text redresses this knowledge gap and provides a novel framework for making sense of science, particularly in relation to contemporary social issues such as climate change. Using real-world examples, Mark Erickson explores what science is and how it is carried out, what the relationship between science and society is, how science is represented in contemporary culture, and how scientific institutions are structured. Throughout, the book brings together sociology, science and technology studies, cultural studies and philosophy to provide a far-reaching understanding of science and technology in the twenty-first century. Fully updated and expanded in its second edition, Science, Culture and Society will continue to be key reading on courses across the social sciences and humanities that engage with science in its social and cultural context.

Voyage, Discovery & Pirates: these are three integral parts of Caribbean history. Inspired by a book written by Marco polo who was a great explorer of 12th century, a young admiral named Christopher Columbus set up sails in Atlantic sea in 1492 in search of an unknown world. This voyage made him the greatest explorer of mankind and changed the course of history forever After reading a couple of paragraphs from Columbus's published Logbook and searching through the facts of his historical voyages, I got inspired to visit some of those places which he discovered during his explorations. In my trip first I went to Bahama, then to Dominican Republic( Hispaniola) followed by Cuba and Jamaica. I also travelled and stayed in two other pristine Caribbean islands- St Lucia and Grand Cayman which too were discovered by Columbus in his subsequent voyages. In my trips to various islands, I came across an open-air museum ( Columbus Park) in Jamaica as well as an underwater museum for sunken ships in Grand Cayman. In this book, I have described my personal travel experience to all the tourist attractions and adventure stuff in these island countries and relevant historical facts with Columbus I attempted to inspire my readers to visit Caribbean islands , admire the natural beauty and appreciate Columbus’s contribution into this marvellous world of islands
