This practical guide to understanding how regulators build insight and form judgements will help organisations to develop their strategy and approach to engagement and to improve their regulatory outcomes. From robot-assisted surgery and advances in stem cell technology, the explosion in use of social media and advances in computing power to the development of autonomous vehicles and digital environments such as the metaverse, these exciting developments present questions, invite debate and have implications. These rapid new developments also join a world described as being increasingly VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous), making industry-regulator relationships more important than ever to prevent consumer harm and to configure business success. This book is written for those who wish to build positive and progressive relationships with their regulators in these exciting times of rapid advancement. From developing their strategy, through to the practicalities of how to prepare and engage with regulators, readers are navigated through an ecosystem of insight to help build an understanding of what informs their regulator’s opinion and judgements. Underpinned with real-world experiences and examples, this book shows that, through clearer strategic focus and more effective relationships, organisations can refine their approach and build their relationships to drive mutually beneficial regulatory relationships that avoid negative consequences and unnecessary costs. Board members, executives, senior leaders, risk, compliance, legal professionals, regulators, and students of business, finance, and law will refer to this book again and again to guide holistic thinking about regulatory relationships and use the insights these can provide to help them calibrate their actions, activities, and progress.

National gender profile of agriculture and rural livelihoods: the Republic of Moldova reflects FAO’s commitment to promoting gender equality, while integrating a gender perspective into its operations. The report focuses on the intersections of gender, agriculture and rural development, and presents a snapshot of critical gender-based inequalities and their consequences for agricultural production and rural livelihoods in the Republic of Moldova. A picture of significant gender gaps in terms of the rural population’s access to educational and employment opportunities and social services is presented. In the area of agricultural production, women have much more limited access to and control over vital resources, including land, extension and advisory services and irrigation. The assessment includes recommendations on enhancing agriculture and developing rural communities with a gender-sensitive perspective, taking into consideration gender roles and differences between women and men in access to productive resources, inputs and information.

In an era when many of us depend on debt to survive but struggle with its consequences, Financing Prosperity by Dealing with Debt draws together current thinking on how to solve debt crises and promote prosperity. By profiling existing action by credit unions and community organisations, alongside bold proposals for the future, with contributions from artists, activists and academics, the book shows how we can rethink the validity and inevitability of many contemporary forms of debt through organising debt audits, promoting debt cancellation and expanding member-owned co-operatives. The authors set out legal and political methods for changing the rules of the system to provide debt relief and reshape economies for more inclusive and sustainable flourishing. The book also profiles community-based actions that are changing the role of debt in economic, social and political life – among them, participatory art projects, radical advice networks and ways of financing feminist green transition. While much of the research and activism documented here has taken place in London, the contributors show how different initiatives draw from and generate inspiration elsewhere, from debt audits across the global south, creative interventions around the UK and grassroots movements in North America. Financing Prosperity by Dealing with Debt moves beyond critique to present a wealth of concrete ways to tackle debt and forge the prosperous communities we want for the future.

This is a story of hope in the face of widespread consternation over the global climate crisis. For many people concerned about global warming, the 2018 vote by UK parliamentarians to proceed with the plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport was a devastating blow. Aviation was predicted to make up some 25% of the UK’s carbon emissions by 2050 and so the decision seemed to fly in the face of the UK’s commitment to be a climate leader. Can the UK expand Heathrow airport, bringing in 700 extra planes a day, and still stay within ambitious carbon budgets? One legal case sought to answer this question. Campaigning lawyers argued that plans for a third runway at one of the world’s busiest airports would jeopardise the UK’s ability to meet its commitments under the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. This book traces the dramatic story of how the case was prepared - and why international aviation has for so long avoided meaningful limits on its expansion.

Bob's journey spans over four decades, transitioning from a young actor in California to a successful business career. In 2019, he retires from the corporate world to pursue his original passions of acting, filmmaking, and living a nomadic life traveling throughout Europe. In January 2020, Bob's European adventure begins in Vienna, Austria, and everything goes smoothly until mid-March when a global pandemic changes the world. He narrowly escapes border closures and reaches Zagreb, Croatia, only to face a devastating earthquake, the worst in the country in 140 years. The US Travel Department advises him to return home, but lacking a real home to go back to, Bob decides to stay in Europe. Riding out the pandemic in Europe grants Bob a unique perspective on the world as he learns to face fears, develop resilience, and keep moving forward. Upon returning to the US after three years, Bob is met with a different world, where discussing sensitive subjects like the pandemic, health, politics, and just about any subject seems to pose challenges and creates occasional tension. The atmosphere feels delicate and uncertain, leading to shifts in relationships. However, reconnecting with loved ones after a long absence proves to be a transformative, healing, and enlightening experience for Bob. His journey represents a testament to embracing change, facing adversity, and finding personal growth through exploration and pursuing one's passions.
