This book is a diary of writings from October 2019 to November 2020. The months before the pandemic started were a blur. Jennifer had got out of a long toxic relationship, and had to start her life from zero. A month later, the most important person in her life passed away in an accident. At the time, she found herself not only emotionally alone, but physically as well, in total confinement triggered by the coronavirus lockdown in a small village in Portugal. Due to these events, her mental health worsened, and so she started writing again—a poetry diary that accompanied her healing journey. A year later, she decided to edit, design and self-publish her first book. All in all, this book is composed with self-discovery, freedom, and love in all forms inspired by a year marked by losses and, consequently, big wins. The book contains month chapters and all text is ordered by date. Single pages with larger text mostly consist of thoughts and phrases, which are accompanied by a short contextual description of the moment they were conceived in. The main language is English but inside, you will also find original text in Portuguese, French and Spanish. All content includes the original text language, followed by its translation to English. With its signature "DARE to keep kids off drugs" slogan and iconic t-shirts, DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) was the most popular drug education program of the 1980s and 1990s. But behind the cultural phenomenon is the story of how DARE and other antidrug education programs brought the War on Drugs into schools and ensured that the velvet glove of antidrug education would be backed by the iron fist of rigorous policing and harsh sentencing. Max Felker-Kantor has assembled the first history of DARE, which began in Los Angeles in 1983 as a joint venture between the police department and the unified school district. By the mid-90s, it was taught in 75 percent of school districts across the United States. DARE received near-universal praise from parents, educators, police officers, and politicians and left an indelible stamp on many millennial memories. But the program had more nefarious ends, and Felker-Kantor complicates simplistic narratives of the War on Drugs. He shows how policing entered US schools and framed drug use as the result of personal responsibility, moral failure, and poor behavior deserving of punishment rather than something deeply rooted in state retrenchment, the abandonment of social service provisions, and structures of social and economic inequality.

Musaicum Books presents to you this meticulously collection of hundreds of life stories, recorded interviews and incredible vivid testimonies of former slaves from the American southern states, including photos of the people being interviewed and their extraordinary narratives. After the end of Civil War in 1865, more than four million slaves were set free. There were several efforts to record the remembrances of the former slaves. The Federal Writers' Project was one such project by the United States federal government to support writers during the Great Depression by asking them to interview and record the myriad stories and experiences of slavery of former slaves. The resulting collection preserved hundreds of life stories from 17 U.S. states that would otherwise have been lost in din of modernity and America's eagerness to deliberately forget the blot on its recent past.
