This is the fifth editon of 'Cruising Guide to the Netherlands' which was first published in 1988. It is regarded as the authoritative companion for anyone cruising the Netherlands using fixed mast routes. Brian Navin's guide is based on popular selected routes which offer an opportunity to visit most of the regions of the Netherlands from the estuary of the Schelde up to the IJsselmeer and Waddensee. This new edition follows the same pattern, and includes corrections and updates that have accumulated since the fourth edition was published. This includes amended harbour plans and new photographs taken by the author. 'Cruising Guide to the Netherlands' is one of a well established series of guides from Brian Navin.

This guide, which by this its fifth edition has already been hailed as one of the most thorough and up to date guides to inland waterways cruising in the Netherlands, provides detailed information on over 50 cruising routes in the country's 12 different provinces. Aimed at motor yachts cruising the 3,500kms of Dutch waterways that offer at least 4.0 metres air draft, the guide includes step-by-step navigation details for each route; bridge and lock opening procedures and times; descriptions of moorings and facilities; useful sources of information on every aspect of Netherlands cruising; a glossary of important Dutch terms, and tips offering unique insights into particular locations. It is the first book to provide this level of detail and to be written to supplement the national Nautical Maps (Waterkaarten) app and charts. It even corrects numerous errors to be found in this and other apps and published guides. This latest edition also includes a full index rather than just a list of place names. The guide is written by Cruising Association (CA) members Andy and Gwen Mulholland, who have cruised virtually every waterway in the Netherlands over the past decade, and edited by fellow member Gordon Knight. It is updated annually via reports from CA members actively cruising the inland waterways (several hundred of which are submitted each year) and includes a 25 per cent discount offer on first year's CA membership to purchasers applying online during the year. Members then have access to additional hyperlinks to the CA's proprietary CAptain's Mate app, enabling them to read the most up to date information on mooring locations and navigation restrictions as they are posted. It also includes a special code providing a 25% discount on a PDF version of the guide from the CA's Shopify online store at https: //cruising-association-eiws.myshopify.com throughout 2024.

With 6,000km of navigable waterways, the Netherlands offers one of the most extensive yet compact cruising grounds in Europe. This book is a user's guide to the whole network, covering all the mast-up routes and excluding only those waterways which offer less than 3.5m bridge height. Navigational details are provided for each waterway, comprising dimensions and obstacles to be expected, including service arrangements for bridges and locks. This is followed by details of over 300 stopping places across all 12 provinces; some which are large or popular harbours, and others which are well off the beaten track. Comments on the significant features are expanded for nearly 100 'principal venues' where more details on things to do and see are provided, as well as information on practical facilities ashore and the authors' selective and subjective restaurant tips! The book is designed to be of interest to all crew members, not just the skipper or navigator, whether its to establish how to approach a place, or to discover what to do or see of interest on arrival. Easy to browse, the book's illustrations have been selected to give a flavour of this water-loving country as well as to prepare the visiting yachtsman, whether under power or sail. This second edition has been updated with amendments to the text and maps. There are also many new photos by the authors. Louise Busby's interest in boating has led to commissions for Motor Boats Monthly as well as the Cruising Association's magazine. She is a former CA regional Almanac editor for the Netherlands and Belgium.David Broad is a detailed journal writer and log keeper, many of David's notes and sketches have been used in the compilation of this book. He is a Council member of the Cruising Association and the Chairman of the Broom Owners Club. A website, which is a useful annexe to the book, is kept up to date with details of changes to the waterways along with useful links to further information. The author's well established guide to the East Coast of England from Great Yarmouth to Dover and corresponding continental coasts between Calais and Den Helder has undergone major revision for this fifth edition. Throughout, the text and charts have been fully updated. Since the fourth edition there has been a continued growth in maritime commercial traffic and in the associated dangers of collision. The major event in the southern North Sea was the initiation in July 2007 of a new traffic system for the Sunk area of the Thames Estuary which includes three Traffic Separation Schemes, two Precautionary Areas, two ship anchorage areas, a 'Two-way Route' for local traffic and a recommended route for North Sea ferries. Similarly important changes have been made to the traffic schemes in the approaches to Hoek van Holland during 2008. Full details of both these developments are supported by new plans.

This cruising guide provides information for those traveling by canal cruiser, either rented or privately owned, on a trip through the Netherlands provinces of Noord Holland, Zuid Holland and Utrecht. It not only shows where you can go but also why you might want to go there. Eight suggested touring routes are described in detail on maps and cruising logs, along with "nuts and bolts" pages about navigational charts and signs, operation of bridges and locks, as well as tables listing the length, from/to points and restrictive dimensions of each of the 67 individual waterways of the region. The "Heart of Holland" is the region of lakes, rivers, canals and natural areas within the loop of cities of the Randstad - Rotterdam, Delft, Den Haag, Leiden, Haarlem, Amsterdam, Hilversum, Utrecht, and Gouda - an almost continuous circle. In this middle lays a green area, sprinkled with small and medium-sized villages, each with its own culture, history and architecture. On the west are the beaches of the North Sea, at Katwijk and Scheveningen. Arguably this is the best cruising area of the Netherlands. You can moor along the banks of the canals or in ports. You will find boat clubs and commercial marinas with shore power and other services, at a small charge, and many free moorings without facilities. The book lists all of these and displays the locations on maps. Over 175 color photos depict the scenes along the waterways.
