At the end of his life Rudolf Steiner took up the task that was his special destiny; to bring to the West a knowledge of reincarnation and karma. To do this he gave over eighty lectures in 1924 in which he explicitly and concretely revealed the destinies of various individuals from one life to the next in order to show how the general laws of karma operate in individual cases. He also revealed many details of the karmic streams of the members of the Anthroposophical Society. These volumes constitute an immeasurable contribution to the understanding of reincarnation and karma, and the tasks of the Anthroposophical Society in connection with the Archangel Michael. First printed in English in 1953 with the title, Cosmic Christianity and the Impulse of Michael. Karma in the Life of Individuals and the Evolution of the World. Six lectures given at Torquay and London, England, between 12th and 27th August, 1924.

Cosmic Christianity describes the relationship between the earthly and supra-earthly cosmic worlds by showing the relationship between the cosmos--as expressed in the movements of the stars--and the activities of Christ during his three years of ministry on Earth. The "gesture" of each astrological planet during those years is worked out and correlated with specific acts of the Christ as recorded in the Gospels. The apparent "looping" movements of Mercury, for example, are connected with the "seven signs" of St. John's gospel. The author goes on to explore the many ways in which these healing acts, which have been inscribed in the heavens, continue to work in evolution through the events of history and through our individual human lives. By studying this, we begin to understand our responsibility for developing the new Christian mysteries and, consequently, renewing the starry cosmos. Sucher presents a real foundation for modern star wisdom. Topics include the evolution of cosmology; the origins of the planetary symbols; our new relationship to the stars as revealed in human lives and historical events; and the role of the Archangel Michael in our individual relationship to the stars. This is an excellent place to begin one's study of the stars and their meaning for both our individual lives and for the world. "The Michael age has dawned. Hearts begin to have thoughts. Enthusiasm no longer flows from mystical obscurity, but from the inner clarity that thought conveys. To grasp this is to receive Michael into one's soul. Thoughts that today seek to grasp the spirit must spring from hearts that beat for Michael as the fiery cosmic prince of thought." --Rudolf Steiner For centuries, the tradition of the "mystical chronology" of the world's seven archangelic regents has been part of Western esoteric teaching. According to this tradition, 1879 marked the return of the solar spirit Michael --the archangel of the Sun --to oversee earthly evolution. Steiner always placed his life and work in the service of Michael's evolutionary task. And he recognized that, at the beginning of the twentieth century, humanity emerged from the Kali Yuga --the Dark Age --and entered the Age of Light. Against this background, Steiner described the ascent of Michael as cosmic ruler, his battle with the "dragon" of the spirits of darkness, and his roles as the countenance of Christ and the guardian of cosmic intelligence. He also gave many profound indications of how Michael's evolutionary task depends on the free and independent collaboration of human coworkers. Speaking on behalf of Michael, Steiner laid out the essentials for a new Michaelic path to full humanity. Among the elements of this path are the development of selfless individuality; cosmopolitanism; the practice of the presence of Christ; fearlessness; the transformation of thinking and perception in a new synthesis of science, art, and religion; the spiritualization of space; and the separation of thought from language. The Archangel Michael gathers most of Steiner's statements on this subject, making it an important source for coming to terms with today's political, social, psychological, and spiritual crises.

"After Rudolf Steiner's death, she remained filled with the great impulses of the Christmas Foundation Meeting--impulses, hopes, also anxieties on behalf of mankind, which he had shared with her in many an intimate conversation" --George Adams on Ita Wegman Following the death of Rudolf Steiner in 1925, Ita Wegman--one of his closest esoteric students--began to publish regular letters to the members of the Anthroposophical Society. As Steiner's had done, her letters were appended with "leading thoughts" (guiding principles). Esoteric Studies collects many of those "letters to friends," along with various articles, reports, and addresses by Ita Wegman on subjects such as the Christmas Foundation Conference, the Goetheanum building, and the festival of Michaelmas. Featuring an informative foreword by Crispian Villeneuve and a commemorative study by George Adams, this book provides a fine introduction to the work of Ita Wegman, as well as a rousing call for courage and wakefulness in the spirit of the Archangel Michael "May all those who have the strength and courage, not only to bring the Michael-thought to manifestation in their souls but to make it living in their deeds, become true servants of Michael and bring about his victory, and thus lead mankind over the great crisis with which it is now confronted." --Ita Wegman
