Modern science communication has emerged in the twentieth century as a field of study, a body of practice and a profession—and it is a practice with deep historical roots. We have seen the birth of interactive science centres, the first university actions in teaching and conducting research, and a sharp growth in employment of science communicators. This collection charts the emergence of modern science communication across the world. This is the first volume to map investment around the globe in science centres, university courses and research, publications and conferences as well as tell the national stories of science communication. How did it all begin? How has development varied from one country to another? What motivated governments, institutions and people to see science communication as an answer to questions of the social place of science? Communicating Science describes the pathways followed by 39 different countries. All continents and many cultures are represented. For some countries, this is the first time that their science communication story has been told.

This radical volume disrupts circular debates around diversity, equity, and inclusion in science communication to address the gaps in the field. Bringing to the fore marginalised voices of so-called 'racialised minorities', and those from Global South regions, it interrogates the global footprint of the science communication enterprise.

Estas cuestiones son el germen de una investigación que ha durado tres años (2012-2015) y que ha dado lugar a la tesis doctoral: «La conexión emocional generada por el humor como elemento de engagement en marcas consolidadas». Una investigación que ha demostrado que, en un contexto de crisis económica, fragmentación de las audiencias, saturación publicitaria y entorno multipantalla el humor continúa siendo una estrategia válida para generar engagement. Es más, si el anuncio gusta –hace que «la marca me caiga mejor»– se viralizará. Conexión emocional y prescripción orgánica. ¿Hay algo más que una marca pueda soñar?

The main focus of this book is the investigation of linguistic variation in Spanish, considering spoken and written, specialised and non-specialised registers from a corpus linguistics approach and employing computational updated tools. The ten chapters represent a range of research on Spanish using a number of different corpora drawn from, amongst others, research articles, student writing, formal conversation and technical reports. A variety of methodologies are brought to bear upon these corpora including multi-dimensional and multi-register analysis, latent semantics and lexical bundles. This in-depth analysis of using Spanish corpora will be of interest to researchers in corpus linguistics or Spanish language.

A Ciência vem oferecendo, ao longo dos séculos, uma inegável e cara contribuição para a humanidade em várias áreas, como as sociais, exatas, humanas e biológicas e da saúde. Têm sido inúmeros e visíveis, no cotidiano de boa parte da sociedade, os avanços resultantes das investigações científicas realizadas no âmbito das universidades e dos institutos de pesquisa e, ainda assim, temos enfrentado um poderoso movimento obscurantista, contrário à razão e ao progresso intelectual, que nega evidências do aquecimento global, da curvatura da terra, dos benefícios da vacina, entre outros.
