Claesson Koivisto Rune is a Swedish architectural partnership, founded in Stockholm, in 1995, by Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto, and Ola Rune. It started as an architectural firm, but has since become an internationally acclaimed, multi-disciplinary office with an equal emphasis on both architecture and design. This exhibition presents twelve works from the print series ?Faciem,? a quarter-century project of interdisciplinary dialogues, research, and experiments that led to the assertion that ?Architecture is not art and art is not architecture. The comprehensive monograph of Claesson Koivisto Rune sums up 25 successful years of creativity of the internationally acknowledged Swedish architects. The Swedish design partnership Claesson Koivisto Rune was founded a little over ten years ago but has already received extraordinary recognition. Like Scandinavian masters before them, such as Aalto or Jacobsen, Claesson Koivisto Rune practise both architecture and design. In 2004 they were among the first Swedish architects to be selected for the international section of the Architecture Biennale in Venice. The architectural projects in this monograph include private houses and interiors from Europe to North and South America, as well as larger buildings like the Sfera Building Culture House in Kyoto, Japan. The furniture and other product designs presented here are manufactured by over 30 international companies. All photographs have been taken anew for this publication, which is a design object in itself, consisting of two books – separate volumes for architecture and design – with introductions by Paola Antonelli (MoMA) and Marcus Fairs (ICON Magazine).

A revelatory consideration of the wide-ranging practice of one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century A pioneer of minimalism and conceptual art, Sol LeWitt (1928–2007) is best known for his monumental wall drawings. LeWitt’s broad artistic practice, however, also included sculpture, printmaking, photography, artist’s books, drawings, gouaches, and folded and ripped paper works. From the familiar to the underappreciated aspects of LeWitt’s oeuvre, this book examines the ways that his art was multidisciplinary, humorous, philosophical, and even religious. Locating Sol LeWitt contains nine new essays that explore the artist’s work across media and address topics such as LeWitt’s formative friendships with colleagues at the Museum of Modern Art in the early 1960s; his photographs of Manhattan’s Lower East Side; his 1979 collaboration with Lucinda Childs and Philip Glass and its impact on his printmaking; and his commissions linked to Jewish history and the Holocaust. The essays offer insights into the role of parody, experimentation, and uncertainty in the artist’s practice, and investigate issues of site, space, and movement. Together, these studies reveal the full scope of LeWitt’s creativity and offer a multifaceted reassessment of this singular and influential artist.

Ornament is currently acquiring a renewed status in architecture. As contemporary technologies of design and fabrication introduce unprecedented opportunities to intertwine the constructive logics and expressive articulations of buildings, ornament has re-emerged as a means to explore the interactions between function and decoration, volume and surface, structure and envelope. This book gives a systematic account of the technologies employed in the production of ornament and the strategies of its application today, examining a range of international built examples.
