Excerpt from Catalogue of the Indiana State Law Library The Indiana State Law Library had its beginning in act passed by the Legislature in 1867, providing separate rooms for the law books then in the State Library; placing them in the custody of the Sup1eme Cou1;t authorizing the Judges to make such pmchases of books as they might deem advisable, and to make rules and regulations for the use of the Library. The beginning was a very small one indeed, for the law books so transferred to the custody of the Court were very few; and its present magnitude is a source of gratification to all who have been connected with the Library in the thirty-one years of its existence. This Catalogue contains all books in the Library on May 1, 1898, and the number is esti mated at 30, 000, excluding duplicates and pamphlets. That this will be of great aid to municipal officers and to members of the profession the author, from his past experience, feels assured. The task of drafting them was not a small One. Many of them have stood the test of the courts. The general school, election, 'and tax laws are made applicable to municipalities by statutes, and they naturally occupy a part of this volume. Here the forms have been omitted for the reason that such forms as are necessary are furnished by the State and Counties.
