This report adopts a scenario-based approach to help better understand the forces impacting Canada's energy environment and to address the uncertainties & issues associated with evolving energy markets. It examines two distinct scenarios of Canada's energy future for the public to consider: the supply push scenario, in which technology advances gradually and Canadians take limited action with respect to the environment; and the techno-vert scenario, representing a world in which technology advances rapidly and Canadians take broad actions with respect to the environment & the accompanying preference for environmentally friendly products & cleaner-burning fuels. Projections are made for energy demand in total and in the residential, commercial, industrial, & transportation sectors, plus non-energy demand for hydrocarbons; and for energy supply (production and supply/demand balances) in the electricity, crude oil, natural gas liquids, natural gas, and coal sectors.
