Excerpt from Historical Geography of the Bible The great importance of Bible Geography appears when we consider that the correct understanding of the Sacred Narrative is often dependent upon a knowledge of geographical locations. No geography is so valuable to us as that connected with the Holy Scriptures, and yet I think we are safe in saying that it is the least studied of all geography. When we read of a city, an empire, a moun tain, a plain, a river, or a sea, we naturally form some idea of its location. To form right ideas of such things is an inestimable help to the understanding of the events of the Bible, and to form wrong ideas of geographical locations often leads to error in the interpretation of the Scriptures. The contents of the following pages should not prove tedious nor uninteresting, for every place under consideration is in some way re lated to the history of the chosen people of God, and most of the places are associated directly or indirectly with the walks and works of our Master. The minutest details connected with the sacred narratives of the Bible seem impor tant and alive with interest to those who love and long for truth. The plan of this book is to combine just enough of history with geography to make the latter interesting and profitable The Bible student will find a good wall map of Palestine invaluable as an accompaniment of this volume.
