This edited collection examines the effects of the Great War and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in East Asia. Contributors to this collection highlight how Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Mongolian groups and individuals actively sought to envision a global order in which the center of gravity lay in the Western Pacific, not the Northern Atlantic.

This book was inspired by conversations and questions I've had with students all over Australia. Conversations about all kinds of subjects in a variety of different contexts. Conversations with students just like you. Each one of these conversations reflects a moment of choice in the life of a student-a decision that student had to make at one time or another. You see, life is full of moments. Every day is full of moments. Some we expect, and some we don't.Some that generate joy, celebration and satisfaction, and some that reflect pain, confusion and grief. The fact is, moments matter. And how we respond and navigate our way through those moments is important because it influences what happens next.As you continue to grow up, there will be moments that are inescapable. My hope is that this book will give you the practical tools to know what to do when these moments arrive.

Guillaume's theory of psychomechanics views language as systematic and semiotic, with the use of verb forms governed by the meaning we want to express, which is embedded in the unconscious resources of one's native tongue rather than in rules. Through his application of Guillaume's framework Walter Hirtle provides original insights on such topics as the treatment of the progressive and the perfect in English, the use of 'do' as an auxiliary in questions and negations, and tense and its relation to aspect and mood. Hirtle is the former director of the Fonds Gustave Guillaume, an archive of 60,000 manuscript pages of the theorist's work, housed at Laval University, the world centre for the study of psychomechanics.

He had to save the world to redeem his sins. But the world had already ended. So he lurched along through his pointless corporeal existence, awaiting an overdue reunion with his perished family. Bereft of purpose in a man-made apocalypse, Noblé worked in the most suicidal profession, one known to expedite a longed-for reunion with his wife and daughter. They called it couriering, the simple act of escorting people, usually climate refugees escaping famine and drought, from one place to another. Desperate to leverage favor with the fates, he eschewed all material attachments and compensation for his deeds. As he dawdled over the years, playing at living while his mind was lost in the afterlife, a creeping and overwhelming feeling of failure to fulfill his destiny with his family took hold. The contagion of this intractable depression drove him toward suicide. On his way to die, he happens upon a benign, unremarkable young woman, who unknowingly holds the key to saving a once thought to be unstoppable global warming feedback loop. She possesses the one thing humanity needs to repent for its ancestors’ ecocide, and more important to Noblé, the one thing he needs to atone to get back to his family. His mind is mired in the afterlife with his loved ones, and the black hole pull of such a longing has him losing his earthly sanity more every minute. But fate, it seems, is not finished with him yet.

Dreams Beyond Time: On Sacred Encounter and Spiritual Transformation offers readers an overview of dreams research as applied to non-ordinary dreams. Lee Irwin describes four basic types of dreaming: normative, mythic, psychic, and transpersonal, and he illustrates each type with specific dream examples. These types of dreaming are then used as a lens to look more closely at additional dream types that indicate dreaming as a process of creative discovery. Through virtual dreaming encounters, latent human potentials are revealed and suggest aspects for spiritual development based on dream recording, interpretation, and analysis. In turn this leads to a metaphysical description that is pan-sentient, illustrating a vivid, living universe of process-becoming in which certain dream types reveal mythic, psychic, and transpersonal capacities as intrinsic to a deeper more awakened sense of intersubjective self-awareness. While dream theories from many diverse authors are explored, the author uses an existential and phenomenological method to analyze dreaming contents in relationship to altered states of mind, trance, out of body and near-death experience, meditation, imagination, and stages of lucid self-awareness. Transpersonal dreams are given considerable attention in relationship to mystical traditions, paranormal research, and the comparative anthropology of self.
