Building bridges has been and still is the main task of the European Society of Women in Theological Research (ESWTR). It aims to facilitate theological and academic religious debate transcending the borders between languages and countries, as well as those resulting from religions, confessions, cultures or traditions, in order to offer constructive future perspectives. This volume has now adopted "building bridges" as its main theme. It reflects the contributions to the 11th International Conference of ESWTR held in 2005 in the unique historical and cultural setting of Budapest. European women in the lead of theological research discuss the subject on the basis of their different specialist approaches and thus provide a unique spectrum of contemporary discourse from very varied disciplines in theology and religious studies.

Die vorliegende Arbeit gehort zur Reihe der Untersuchungen uber den Marxismus-Leninismus in den nicht-sowjetischen kommunistischen Liin dern Europas, welche im Auftrag des Osteuropa Instituts an der Uni versiHit Freiburg/Schweiz in Angriff genommen sind. 1m Gegensatz zu den fruher veroffentlichten Werken handelt es sich jedoch nicht um eine vollstandige Monographie, sondern um eine Vorarbeit. Sie besteht im wesentlichen in einer Bibliographie des jugoslawischen philosophischen Schrifttums seit 1945 und in einer Ubersicht sowohl des organisatori schen Rahmens als auch der Literatur. Der Verfasser bereitet jetzt, auf Grund der hier zusammengefaBten Ergebnisse, eine umfassende Mono graphie der genannten Art vor. Die Veroffentlichung erfolgt in der Hoffnung, daB diese meines Wissens erste und bisher einzige Einfuhrung in den jugoslawischen Marxismus Leninismus auch den anderen Forschern auf diesem Gebiet, sowohl in Jugoslawien als auch im Ausland, nutzlich sein durfte. Es ist fur mich eine angenehme Pflicht jenen Personen und Institutionen zu danken, ohne deren Hilfe dieses Buch nicht Mtte geschrieben werden konnen. Ich danke dem Osteuropa-Institut der Universitat Freiburg/ Schweiz fur den Auf trag; der Rockefeller Foundation, welche meine Arbeit groBzugig unterstutzt hat; der Schweizerischen Landesbibliothek in Bern, der Freiburger Universitiitsbibliothek und der Bibliothek des Schweizerischen Osteuropa-Instituts in Bern fur die Hi1fe, die ich bei der Zusammenstellung der Bibliographie von ihnen erhalten habe. The term “Crisis of Representation” rose to fame through Michel Foucault. The crisis, in the context of this issue, has not only a political and economic dimension, but a cultural, aesthetic and religious one as well. Thus, a serious inquiry into this complex and multidimensional phenomenon requires an interdisciplinary approach. The issue targets the phenomena at hand through 15 contributions – all with unique and innovative approaches to the topic. One common aim that holds the issue together is the analysis of the nature of the crisis, which helps to find suitable theoretical frameworks. On the other hand, the term itself functions as a tool that enables the analysis of specific societal developments. Contributing authors brought with them expertise from their respective fields including philosophy, political sciences, theology, Islamic studies and religious studies. This allowed for a cross-disciplinary approach on the phenomenon with special foci on politics, religions, societies and finance, as well as theoretical developments on current philosophical and post-colonial discourses.
