For this version of my knitted fingerless gloves, I'm doing something different. Instead of starting at the cuff, I'm starting at the fingers and working down to the cuff. This isn't an overly complicated pattern. In fact, it only uses very basic stitches and is great if you are looking for something that is quick to make. Or, if you're a new knitter, looking for something slightly more challenging. As long as you know how to knit, purl and knit 2 stitches together, you'll be able to make these. And any parts that might trick you up, like casting on for the thumb, have a how-to video to help you along.

For beginners who are ready to advance beyond flat knitting, working in the round is a natural progression, says designer Kristin Omdahl. It alleviates a lot of seams, she explains, which gives a better structure to your projects, as well as making them more pleasing aesthetically. Kristin created the designs in this book to be easy projects for learning to use double pointed and circular knitting needles, as well as combination projects that transition from one type of needle to the other. Great for gifts, projects include a Headband, Cowl, Lace Capelet, Pouch, Baby Hat, Fingerless Mitts, Baby Blanket and Family Hat in sizes for toddlers, children, women and men.

Knit flat on 2 needles with regular worsted weight yarn with single pointed knitting needles this will certainly be the most unique pieces you’ll make in a while. Not sure if this pattern is for you? There are numerous photos showing you exactly how to do the trickier parts. As long as you have the knitting basics covered, I will show you the rest. The pattern gives instructions to make small, medium and large sizes. And have no worries about the hippos ever falling off. They are created while you knit and are incorporated into the fingerless mittens. A quick note on sizing. Like my other fingerless glove patterns, the sizes are adjusted by changing the size of the knitting needles. It gives a better overall look and maintains the proportion of the hippo to the glove. The purchase of this pattern allows you to make and sell the gloves, but you may not redistribute or resell this pattern.

This book is a collection of rare mitten patterns collected, and in some cases recreated, by Christine LeGrow of Spindrift Handknits and Shirley "Shirl the Purl" Scott. These two women have teamed up to preserve and promote traditional Newfoundland knitting. By assembling patterns for hand--knit items such as trigger mitts, flap caps and scarves these women are keeping knitting culture alive.
