How do we experience the world? Let's learn all about the five senses! The sense of touch is one of our five senses. And it is amazing! Every day it starts working the very same moment we wake. It tells us that our pillow feels soft, the floor is hard, the shower is hot, and the juice is cold. Touch also tells us that tickling feels good and bumping into something feels bad. Learn about feeling, how it works, and common problems and diseases connected with it with this perfect first introduction to the sense of touch! ABOUT THE SERIES: The human body is amazing! It gives us five different ways to learn about the world around us: through the eyes, through the skin, through the tongue, through the ears, and through the nose. Thanks to these parts of our bodies, we can see, feel, taste, hear, and smell. These are the five senses! Why do bananas taste so good? Why does tickling cause so much laughter? Illustrated with familiar examples, this fun nonfiction set in the Learn About series gives readers a close-up look at the five senses, and it teaches them how each of the senses work.

who likes to chat’. Isn’t that what we all want for our children? A love of language and talking? How to Raise a Chatterbox guides parents through the stages of speech and language development from age 0-5, providing information, strategies, and tips that will help children to learn to talk more easily and more confidently. The book discusses the reasons behind the advice and the research studies that support it so that parents can make an informed decision about which advice they choose to follow. The book includes hundreds of suggestions for games and activities. Parents don’t need to make any more time in their day; they can simply adapt daily activities such as getting dressed, eating meals, travelling in the car etc. Sandy has also included lots of games and activities that they can do with their child to give them an extra boost, if they have the time. Parents don’t need to buy any special materials; she gives suggestions of how household objects and simple toys can be used to make great speech and language activities. A child’s speech and language skills may be developing as parents would expect but they simply want them to be the best they can be before they start school; or parents may feel they are behind in certain areas and would like specific guidance to help them to catch up. This book is for all parents, grandparents and carers of pre-school children who want to make the most of those precious pre-school years that fly by, and that we now know give us the best opportunity to 'Raise a Chatterbox'.

What do wild animals mean to humans? Will they survive both rampant habitat loss and extinction caused by human encroachment and, as ecotourists, our enthusiasm for them? With ecotourism now the fastest growing segment of tourism, and encounters with wild animals - be it swimming with dolphins, going on safari or bird watching - ever more popular, these are critical questions. Yet until now little has been known about why people crave encounters with wild animals and the meaning for the ecotourism industry, conservation efforts and society at large. Facing the Wild is the first serious empirical examination of why people seek out animals in their natural environment, what the desire for this experience tells us about the meanings of animals, nature, authenticity and wilderness in contemporary industrialized societies, and whether visitors change their environmental perspectives and behaviour, as the custodians of wildlife parks would like them to. The book explores the contradictions and ambivalence that so many people experience in the presence of 'wild nature' - in loving it we may diminish it and in the act of wanting to see it we may destroy it. Ultimately the book makes a case for 'respectful stewardship' of a 'hybrid nature' and provides insight for both practitioners and ecotourists alike.
