This book is a translation of the Tamil sthala Purana of Tiruvannamalai composed in the 17th century by Saiva Ellappa Navalar, with special reference to the Arunachala Mahatmya, a section of the Sanskrit Skanda Purana, which is one of its major sources.

The present book is a natural sequel to those three works that are read by English readers in England, America and India. It is properly entitled A Message from Arunachala because it was written in a few weeks at his saintly masters hermitage on the lower slopes of that Hill. He has described this hill in the first chapter, wherein he shows what sacred and inspiring associations it possesses.

This book gathers all of Maharshi's original works: Self-Enquiry, Upadesa Saram, Five Hymns to Arunachala, and the two sets of Forty Verses, together with miscellaneous pieces the most significant being Atma Vidya. This collection represents the core teachings of this world-renowned spiritual teacher and shows readers how to attain the purest form of non-duality through the supremely simple discipline of Self-Enquiry.
